A freezing cold, iced up river provided the perfect backdrop for a day spent perusing the Jung Ang Market in Gangneung. Located in the middle of town, this market would be more aptly entitled The Fish Market for all the varying degrees of fish for sale. Coming in all shapes and sizes, there were big fish, small fish, blue fish, red fish, and fish violently cut in half. The one thing they had in common? All the fish had salty hooks thrust through their salty mouths and lips. Koreans come here to shop, while foreigners (and probably out-of-towners too) come here to glimpse, stare and dare I say sample the wide variety of fish / meat / seafood on display at Jung Ang bazaar. Happy New Year! Hope you all had a good Christmas and that Santa brought you everything you asked for. Thought I'd give a little update to fill you all in on what's been going on here over Christmas. The last week of school before Christmas was pretty fun, nice and easygoing. The week ended on Friday with a school trip to a chocolate making factory with the little kids. You can imagine the carnage that 50 little kids armed with tubes of liquid chocolate would cause. It was all over their faces, clothes, the floor, but luckily some of it made it to actual solid chocolate form which they could take home. Back at school we had a big buffet lunch with them all, after which Santa Claus (or Santa haraboji in Korean) paid a visit. ... read more

How am I to sum up these past few weeks in Korea without rambling on endlessly describing every detail of the adventures I have got myself into? In a few words, I really can’t. It’s unfortunate that I will loose out on a few key points from my last few weeks, but I think you get the main idea about how I am doing here in Korea: amazing. Life could not be better; good friends, great food, a relatively un-stressful job, yup… life ain’t too shabby at all these days. One highlight worth sharing was my trip to Gangneung (강릉) a few weeks back.
