The view of the Singapore fire station from our room. Wednesday 12 August 2015
Oh what a lovely sleep. From the 17th floor we feel much closer to the heavy clouds. There was a reasonably strong wind blowing and light rain was falling. The temperatures had cooled to a pleasant 26 degrees. The waiting staff in the dining room were commenting on how cold it was. We can't wait to get home, we see it was -7 in Alexandra this morning. Now that is what we call cold. Looking down from a great height we can see into the compound of the main fire station in Singapore. Firemen are parading, practising, and preparing the engines.
The breakfast is big. It is called the American Breakfast. We have quite a chat with one of the waiters. He recommends some places for us to visit. We start talking about the Singapore Grand Prix which will take place in September. He said it was going to be noisy and all the local hotels are already booked out. The Internet is slow but our wobbly faucet is still standing. We meet an Australian at breakfast and chat about our travels. It appears we are passing like ships in the night. He and his

As Singapore Air clients we get special discount cards for free travel on the sightseeing bus. So why not use it. Our new Australian friends are on board. A quick hello/goodbye and we hop off in Chinatown. What an exciting time. We find another new friend. Needless to say we have to return to his address at 1:00 pm tomorrow before we fly home. The bags will be heavier, the wallet lighter. Time to hop on the bus again. This time to Orchard Road. Shopping! The rain is clearing and we can move from shop to shop under the shelter of trees and verandahs. We meet many "new friends" wanting to sell us all sorts of things, seems like there is a surplus of memory sticks and camera batteries in town and everyone needs to move their stock. We cannot help. No one wants to sell us umbrellas. Fortunately we have the finest French cheap umbrellas, although one is a little worse for wear. Orchard Road

After several train trips and two large shopping malls later we arrive back at our hotel. We once again meet our Australian friends. We chat about places to see and our experiences here in Singapore. We go our separate ways. Who knows if we will meet again. The world is a small place.
There is no little note to say we have the penthouse suite for the night but we do find two surprises. First the wobbly faucet has been fixed without us having informed the front desk. At last the cleaning staff are reporting problems in the rooms. The second surprise - no towels. See what happens when you get an upgrade, you are not expected to use the facilities, especially the faucet that has just been fixed, therefore you don't need towels.
As it is our last night in Singapore we decide on local cuisine at Boat Quay. We finish our trip with a lovely meal. Beside us is the river, above and behind us is a curtain of large skyscrapers all lit up. Further over

Tomorrow we get one further chance of some sightseeing before we leave for the airport at 4:30 pm. The show is nearly over.
