The Philippines has, so far, been nothing I had expected. Somehow I'd imagined it was a country full of nurses and smiles. It appears, however, that the nurses have all gone abroad and I've been worried at times that they've taken the smiles with them.
I met up with Bindal in Manila. Since then we have had a succession of sleepless nights on buses and stressful days organizing buses. Over that time we have been given an incredible amount of misinformation, which I would like to believe has at least been well intentioned. One guide book states that the Philippines is one of the Asia's largest English speaking countries, yet somehow we have struggled to understand and to be understood. For this reason, this blog is dedicated to what we have discovered to be a language all on its own: Fenglish (or Filipino English).
> Fenglish: The bus leaves every hour. Translation: The bus leaves once a day.
> Fenglish: The bus arrives at 3 am. Translation: Arrival time unknown.
> Fenglish: The taxi to your hotel is free - I have called the hotel and they have agreed to pay the fare. Translation: The taxi fare will not

I don't know if you are aware that Andrew and Jenny (jenny was a nurse at Citimed) spent some time in the Phillipines lately and said that it could be a bit "crappy".
Keep the updartes coming both Kelly and i enjoy them
Very similar to my experience - it's a funny place!

BindalI met Bindal 2 years ago in Vietnam and its been great to do some traveling with her again!
The TricycleThese are one of the main forms of public transport around here
The Hobbit HouseA bar in Manila that employs all midgets. A fun night out but beware of all the extra charges that get added to the bill!!
24 hours no sleepAfter the first overnight bus from Manila to Baguio - we were in the front seats and the bus boys refused to close the door to shut out the cold
48 hours no sleepWaiting in Manila airport (flight delayed). After the second overnight bus trip where the bus broke down and we thought we'd miss our flight!
60 hours no sleepJust before we finally went to bed. Wouldn't recommend attempting to experience the Philippines in only 10 days!!
"Comfort Room"The toilets here are only toilet bowls which means you can't sit or squat, you have to hover! Hardly to be considered a comfort room!
