I was in Hong Kong for a brief couple of days (not much there to report except that I had slept and watched TV the whole time) and I am now in the Maldives with family. Where do I begin? I'm on a bright sunny beach, the temperature is around 25 degrees Centigrade and we have crystal clear waters. This is the life.....! I've spent virtually everyday either paddling about in the surrounding waters or sunbathing (and in the process got burnt!). Also went night fishing and snorkelling (where I went on to lose two snorkels and a pair of goggles in the process, don't ask me how, I just did. OK?!) We spent Christmas Day lazing about and having a classic Christmas dinner on the beach (which I can assure you, is one of the ... read more

Maldives. During the election week the office was closed, and we were encouraged to get out of Galle. We were lucky enough to head to the Maldives for a few days with one of Murrays workmates. We stayed on Giravaru Island, a very beautiful island, small enough to walk around in 10 minutes. 5 steps from our door was the beautifully clear inviting ocean. We enjoyed snorkeling with many beautiful fish, and the boys even swam with some turtles. All in all, a very relaxing and enjoyable time (despite the occasional rain). ... read more

Even before we arrived looking out of the window was spectacular, the colours of the sky, ocean and the coral atolls were just calling out, "swim in me, swim in me, partake of my piscean goods". We got picked up from the airport in an air conditioned speed boat that seemed more suited to high speed pursuit of game fish rather than ferrying passengers to Bandos Island about 15 minutes away. The Maldives for those that don't know is around 1200 islands of varying size, of those about 200 are inhabited and around 80 of them are single island resorts. Bandos island where we were had about 300 rooms although the island was undergoing a renovation which meant around a third were closed. The beach ... read more

Sun, Sea, Diving. Who could ask for more?! I had the most amazing transfer from Malé by water plane over the atolls to Ari Beach! Despite the stiffling heat in the air-taxi doubling as an oven, I was more concerned with getting some otherworldly photos from the heights through the thick condensation spattled lense-like openings otherwise known as windows!! I was quite happy until I heard that their safety record was questionable!... read more
