Esta noche lluvia a ratos pero el invento de la lona aguanta, hay un par de trucos que he aprendido esta noche, por ejemplo, colgar algo de las cuerdas de la hamaca para que capture las gotas de agua que bajan por la correa. A la mañana en una pausa he desmontado y para entonces ya estaba el jardinero con el desayuno. Nada mas oír el plástico ha aparecido el gato local, estimo que en zonas pobladas hay mas o menos un gato cada 10m de playa. Para antes se terminar el desayuno ha vuelto la lluvia. I travel by myself often enough, domestically, and overseas. But having Mr. Mike and his son, Matt on this trip has been special. You already know, from our many previous trips, that Mike is the great explorer. But his son, Matt really knows food and drink of all types. And fashion! My Asian friends here were so impressed with his vast knowledge of food, spices, and culture. So was I. So, wherever we went, he added a huge element of background and insight into our food. Upon the suggestion, again of our friends, Tom and Sohbee, formerly from Kuala Lumpur, then the Bay Area, and now Shanghai, we headed to the beautiful, sparsely populated Malaysian island of Langkawi. Sheri met Sohbee at the local community college, while they were taking an exercise class. They quickly became friends, as she learned of our travels, and wondered why we had never visited her home country, Malaysia. After several dinners with them, we were convinced we needed to visit both KL, and the resort island of Langkawi, just off the Thai and Malay coasts. Eigentlich wollte ich ja nur nach Borneo kommen, um mir die Orang-Utans anzuschauen. Dass dann fast 4 Wochen draus wurden, hätte ich auch nicht gedacht… Gestartet bin ich schließlich in Sandakan, so ziemlich im Osten Borneos, wo sich die bekannteste der Aufzuchtsstationen für Orang-Utans befindet. Und ich war begeistert. Es gibt nur noch wenige auf Borneo und Sumatra und sie gehören zu den am meisten geschützten Tierarten. Sie sind wahre Kletterkünstler und bewegen sich sehr gelenkig. Die Männchen sehen sehr urig, fast schon etwas hässlich aus mit Ihren hängenden Lappen im Gesicht. Und die Weibchen sah ich häufig mit dem kleinen Nachwuchs, der sehr neugierig ist und alles noch lernen muss. Das war atemberaubend schön!
