We arrived into KL airport and took the bus into the town. As we were flying with Air Asia we were sent into the budget airline airport which is quite a way out of the city. We took the airport bus into the city which terminated at Puduraya bus station our booked accommodation was next to this bus station so we planned to walk from there. The drive was smooth and interesting especially as it was getting dark our first view of the Petronas twin towers was fantastic they were very well lit and dominated the city skyline.
We were dropped off opposite the bus station and after a bit of confusion we found our hotel okay on the outskirts of little india. We checked in and the room was nice and once again dumped our bags and set off to investigate. We headed for china town and found a nice little road side restaurant where we enjoyed a really good meal. Alcohol is heavily taxed in Malaysia and it very expensive so immediately we knew we woul dhave to be careful again. We got an early night to prepare for a full day of sight seeing.
We started
the next morning with the telephone tower we could see it from our hotel so just set off walking in the general direction. Our tourist map showed it was surrounded by a park and we thought it would be nice to walk through there. The tower was quite a steep hill walk and very similar to the one we had already seen in Berlin. We took a walk around the perimeter but decided not to go up it as we wanted to do the Petronas towers instead. We left the tower via the park which is actually part of the remaining rain forest. It was really relaxing and cool under the shade. We came across monkeys knocking the seed and nuts out of the trees. They were really close above us which was a little bit scary. We decided to walk out of the forest and over to the twin towers. After encountering the steps being refurbished the men sent us 'off road' through the forest to get out to the road. This was uncomfortable as we both only had sandals on and Tim kept laughing about me being concerned about snakes. We found our way out okay and on
leaving saw a sign that warned against scorpions and snakes, that stopped him laughing!!!!
The towers were only a 15 minute walk further into the city and we stopped along the way for a drink by the road side. KL is a very nice city clean, organised and welcoming. When we got to the towers we followed the signs for the skybridge viewing, we joined a queue and were told at our turn that it was a free visit but it was booked up until 4pm. We booked to return and were so surprised that it was free!
We had around 4 hours before we needed to return so we headed to the shopping mall as I was pretty desperate for some heels by this time. I had tried in Thailand but as with anywhere else in Asia the sizes are not great. We went into a shopping centre called the pavilion which was amazing, not only was it nice and air conditioned but it was literally empty. We bought some nice bits and pieces including a very nice pair of strappy sandals with a rather nice heel - hoorah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After shopping we went into a restaurant
in the mall and had the most wonderful mexican meal. One of the best meals we have had since we have been away. We could hardly move afterwards.
By the time we had finished our lunch it was time to go back to the towers for our visit. We gave our tickets over and were ushered by a very polite man into an auditorium. Here they gave us a 3d film of how the towers were built and surprisingly that they are owned by Petronas which is a oil company. They are built with Islamic beliefs in mind and it was all very interesting. From there you are taken to the lift which travels to floor 43 where the bridge is a second a floor. This was very impressive!!! Once you get to the bridge they give you a small briefing on how it flexes and copes with high winds and then you are given 10 minutes to enjoy the views which are fabulous. On the left hand side you have the gardens and lake area and over on the right there are views of the local malaysian homes and the river. We really enjoyed it and were so
impressed with how much they welcome you when they are not even charging for the privledge.
After this we decided we would go back to the hotel and have a relaxing evening as we were to leave the following day to Pular Pangkor an island off the west coast of Malaysia......................
