Our flight from Oz was reasonably relaxed with half the seats empty on the flight. That meant that we all had a bit more room - also all the kids took the opportunity (willingly of course) to do some maths!
We arrived in Singapore and Fab was given a special birthday card - she was really made up!. We got to the hotel late and wandered out to find some noodles at about 10pm - we were near to Orchard Road and walked for ages before finding a small stall selling some noodles, satay sticks and rice. The kids were whacked and we had an early start the next day so our expereince of Singapore this time was short and very limited although Fatty and I have good memories of the place the last time we went to OZ - the noodle bars were the first intro the kids had to a keen interest in stir fries!
The next morning the taxi picked us up at 6.30am to take us to the train station. We were there a little early so settled down in the station cafe for a coffee (with very sweet milk) and some interesting peanut biscuits.
The kids were still half asleep but we did like the alternative version of the polystyrene take away cup of coffee - the plastic bag with a straw.
The train journey was a relaxing 7 hours through, principally Malaysian scenery - lots of palm plantations and banana trees peppered with little villages with small houses and their livestock. We stopped about ten times on the way and Fatty and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience although more than one cry of 'why did you book another train journey, Mum' was heard from the younger generation.
When we reached the Malaysian border everyone had to get off the train. We had a little scare here as all our passports with the exception of Fiendish's had the relevant pice of exit paperwork from Singapore. Luckily it was found on the side where we had been filling in forms - but for a while it looked as if we might become Family 4!
We had not had a chance to get supplies for the journey so decided to eat whatever was available on the train. Unfortunately this consisted of bags of crisps and cans of pop - which was ok to
start with but soon waned even on the unhealthiest eaters in our party! Hence when we arrived in Kuala Lumpur we were all famished.
Once in KL we got taxis to our hotel which is great - immeidately opposite the Petronus Towers with fantastic views from the windows of our rooms. We headed down to the restaurant and had a brilliant buffet which everyone agreed was worth starving all day for!!
The next day after another large buffet breakfast we headed out to do some shoping and wander in the park adjacent to the hotel and the towers.
Tomorrow is another early start for our trip to see the Orang Utans.
