Saturday 19th August Well we only just managed to leave the jungle in the end due to a problem finding our bus which Paul eventually did and directed it in the direction of me and Laura.
So off we set to the Cameron Highlands with idiots all over the bus, like the bus driver telling people if you get denghi fever (not sure if thats how you spell it?) just drink 100 plus, which was a sort of Lucozade drink which all the locals drank, obviously coca-cola the company who makes it had just gone there and said yeah dont worry drink this and you will never be sick again. Fortunately we didnt need his advise as we didnt catch it.
Anyway the drive to the Cameron Highlands was really beautiful going up winding hills past the tea plantations. The highlands is at an altitude of 1500m so is nice and cool all year round which meant for us a nice break from the sweltering heat. We checked into our hostel called fathers guest house and it was really quaint and was set on top of a hill in lush green fields overlooking the small town of Tanah
Rata. The Cameron highlands felt so British with the Tea, the Scones, the mild weather, it was really comfoting to be here after travelling for a month and a half. The Cameron highlands has a huge indian population due to the British brining them over from india as Tea specialists to work on the plantations. This meant plenty of Indian inspired food.
That night we went for a bite to eat and then made it back to watch some premiership action back at the hostel and then staggering into bed. That night we had no problems sleeping................actually we did due to a girl in the dorm room snoring like.......umm??? like i have never heard before it was actually quite impressive.
Sunday 20th August The next morning thankfully Mrs snorealot moved out. Our day consisted of wandering around the town in the lovely mild heat and not doing an awful lot which was nice after the trecks through the Jungle.
That night me and Paul lost to Laura at scrabble due to Laura cheating😊 anyway we heded off to bed and then we got talking to two girls in our dorm (Lara
and Jess) about Mrs Snorealot and had a good laugh and told travelling stories.
Monday 21st August That night i heard Mrs Snorealot again but from a completely different room which got me chuckling in my sleep.
Anyway we grabbed breakfast and decided to go for a nice walk with the girls from our dorm. We decided to take a 3Km hike that took us past Robinson waterfall. It was perfect weather for it - the sun was out but it's not too hot here, so it was great. We walked along the road through the village before turning off onto a 'jungle path'. We reached the waterfall quite soon and although it's quite a cool waterfall we were all slightly disappointed. At the bottom of the waterfall there was rubbish floating around and so it could have been alot better.
We decided that couldnt be it so we kept walking and found ourselves on a magical mystery tour on some precarious ledges on the side of hills with jess loseing her footing a few times, but luckily i was to the rescue on numerous occasions. After a while we noticed
a German family following us and decided we would let them know that we had no idea where we were or where we were going, fortunately they found that quite funny.
Finally we made it to the end o the trail and decided to have a picnic next to a random new and deserted taoist temple. I decided to go to the toilet there and quickly retreated when i walked in and saw it was full of spiders, hundreds and hundreds some looking rather poisonous.
After our picnic we decided we couldnt be bothered to walk back up the hill which would take us hours so we hitched a ride, We actually turned down a few cars that stopped as we wanted to get on the back of a run down truck, which we finally sort of got. The ride back was scenic and we had a good laugh in the back of this shitty vehicle. When we got back we went for lunch with Lara and Jess and then played cards.
Tuesday 22nd August The next day the Lara and Jess left and me Paul and Laura decided to
book our tour of the Tea plantations, in this deal we also got to view the strawbeery farm, the honey farm, the rose farm and the butterfly farm and finally the chinese temple.
The first stop was the Rose farm which was both sad and hilariously rubbish. I would say dont do the rose farm if your going to Cameron Highlands, but its soooooo bad i think u have to, the most ironic thing being that nearly all the roses were dead or dying and aslo dotted around the place were hilarious statues.
The next stop was the Butterfly Farm which was actually quite nice with some very pretty Butterflies.
Then came the Strawberry farm which i was excited about as i thought that i would be able to pick Strawberries and buy them...........................no all you could do was walk down one line of Strawberry plants and then if you wanted buy some expensive strawberries from the gift shop. I wasnt too happy to say the least, although i did purchase the strawberries to cheer me up.
Next stop was the highlight the tea plantation and after the first few stops we were dreading what was
The rose Farm
note i didnt take pictures of the roses, just the comedy statues to come. But actually it was quite nice there, a bit too commercialised though as i was expecting a small Tea plantation that you could walk around and try there home brand tea. No instead it was a huge Plantation with Factory to boot and loads of tourists. The tea was nice though as i sat down with my tea and scones whilst Paul and Laura went for a walk.
Finally came the chinese temple and the honey farm which were both craptacular!!!
We went back to town and drank some more tea and ate some more scones and then went to bed and decided the next morning it was time to leave the mild weathered bliss of the Cameron Highlands.
