Greetings to everyone out there, Haze was back since the year of 2005. My family intended to spend a few days in highland as soon as the school breaks began. Had always prefered Cameron Highland which is filled with greenaries and more relaxation compared to Genting Highlands which is not for me at all. Genting Highlands is filled with loud noises and packed with all kinds of people all over the world. Never miss out eating steam boat, a dipping hot wok filled with seafood and vegetables. It is recommended to have steam boat because the dipping hot wok is very suitable for the cooling weather found in Cameron Highland.Been a must for my family to go for steam boat each visit to the highland. Besides that, for the city folks, working in a polluted surrounding ... read more

From the Perhenthian Islands, we got on a mini-bus and headed for the Cameron Highlands. It is beautiful here, and the weather is cool, which is SO nice! We only spent one full day here, so just checked out the BOH tea farms, and the butterfly farm. The BOH tea farm is beautiful. Rolling hills covered with tea plants. The tea is delicious too! We took a self guided tour through the factory there and then got on a caffeine high with a few cups of tea;) We ended up walking the 2 km back to the main road to check out the butterfly farm. The butterfly farm was small, but had a nice selection of butterflys to check out. I got some pretty good pics, so hope you enjoy! ... read more

I’m not sure if you’ll believe this, but it has been hot lately. Yes I know I’ve been living at 3 degrees north of the Equator for nearly a year now, but we’ve felt comfortable in the heat for quite some time now. But then, near the beginning of April, it stopped raining. Our daily downpour has ended, and we only get a small rain event maybe once a week. As a result it is heating up, we are venturing outside less, we are dreaming of Canada. About 4-5 hours North and inland from KL lies the Cameron Highlands. Reputed to be cool and refreshing, even bring a light sweater kind of place, we ventured up for the long weekend in May with our friend Natalie. What a refreshingly cool weathered adventure we had. Malaysia is ... read more

Day 312: Wednesday 6th May - A change in temperature The journey from Taman Negara to the Cameron Highlands takes 8 hours, even though they are next to each other on the map. There is no direct road between the two places therefore a long journey. At least the scenery is good on the way as you pass tropical jungle, rolling hills and then vegetable and flower farms as you get into the highlands. The dominant feature of the journey though are the palm tree plantations, which seem to occupy a good proportion of the land in peninsula Malaysia. The minibus terminates at Father’s Guesthouse, which is good as I’ve had a tip off that this is a good place to stay. The hostel is at the top of a hill and surrounded by vegetable gardens. ... read more

Hey Folks! So here goes for Malaysia Part 2! We had rain but more in the form of tropical storms which we did not mind that much...but i seriously think we have a black cloud over our heads permantely! So we arrived in The Cameron Highlands. Thats an old English Hill station, so the first thing we noticed was the major temperature drop. But it was welcomed. The fleeces came in handy! I knew they would...I even slept in it! We stayed at a place called Fathers Guest House which was really nice and homely. Met some amazing people. Get this for a small world. We met a couple called Matt and Laura and we were just having a general chit chat as you do, and it turned out Laura had just finished studying physiotherapy. Well ... read more

Getting from the jungle to the Cameron Highlands was a more arduous journey that it should have been. Even though they look pretty close on the map there is apparantely only one road linking them and it takes you the very long way round. So, we got on the coach at 8am and didn't arrive in the Cameron Highlands until around 4pm, despite the fact that we were only going around 150KM as the crow flies. Fun. However, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the Cameron Highlands really is the place to soothe away frustrations. The Cameron Highlands cover a large region in central Malaysia around 5,000ft above sea level. Because of the altitude, the climate is significantly cooler than the rest of Malaysia and feels more like a pleasantly hot British ... read more

Hello everyone, having a lovely time in the peace and quiet of the Cameron Highlands- the cool temperatures are a nice change- can actually walk around outside without dripping sweat after 10 minutes and the rain is quite reminiscent of home. We have been here for 5 days now and although we havent done that much it has been very pleasant as our hostel has a cheap bar and pool table and a nice common area where we have met lots of other travellers and Rob has lost numerous games of both chess and draughts (not to Katie it must be added). On the day we arrived we decided to try to go for a walk armed only with a map from lonely planet- we walked for about half an hour along a busy main road ... read more

Gerung Berembum One of the web pages I consulted lists the walks to Gerung Berembum as 'very tough' with steep sections. I had found the start of Walk#8 yesterday (25/2) and it didn't look too bad. But I had also forgotten yesterday's lesson that the early signs of hope were not always good indicators of what really lay ahead. It hadn't rained overnight, and the footpath in to Robinson Falls was quite a lot less slippery, although it was often easier to walk beside the path than on it. To make it attractive, the concrete slabs had been painted red and green with a product that has a quite gloss finish. No non-slip finishes here. Add the ocassional patch of slimy leaf litter and the path was quite a challange. Shortly after the start of the ... read more

There are some things you don’t expect to see in life: a Monk farting, or Manchester City wining a trophy, for example. Which is why we were both delighted and honoured to see a plethora of wild creatures in our third week of travelling in Southeast Asia. Let me begin where I left off… The Cameron Highlands, as I mentioned, are high lands. This meant a noticeable dip in temperature to a chilly 28 degrees by day and positively arctic 22 degrees at night. Our first of what’s sure to be several treks began with a trip to the aforementioned tea fields, a beautiful sight but no tantalising aromas to speak of yet. It wasn’t until we ventured further up the mountains that we came across the factory where the magic happens. And the tea. We ... read more

Walking to Habu Todays plan was to walk down one of the jungle walks from Tanah Rata to Robinson Power Station and on to a Buddhist temple just a little down the road, and then back to Tanah Rata. Just past Robinson Falls, the trail branches, and I had decided to take the steep option down, and come back the easy path. It seemed like such a good idea at the time! At this point, the descent is about 200m to the power station in a horizontal distance of just over 1.2km. Should any of you geometry geeks want to do the sums, please do. My view was it was one of the steepest scrambles that I had seen for some time. Nice flat walk to the temple, and then started to look for the return ... read more
