Hello arrived in Luang Prabang after a six hour bus journey from vang vieng. Luang Prabang was perfect for what we wanted to do, we just wanted to take things slow, relax and do some sight seeing after lots of partying in vang vieng.
We spent a good week in Luang prabang because we met some good friends and just really enjoyed being their, the food was really good especially at the night market where we eat a few times for very cheap with a good atmosphere and great food. We also discovered a Scandinavian bakery where we treated ourselves to many baked goods, I might have mentioned to some of you all ready the bread and butter pudding they also produced a fantastic breakfast bap. I have tried the local tea in each country I have been to so far and the tea in Laos is up their as one of my favorite ones, but also a Lipton teabag is very handy whilst ive been traveling and they sell that at most places although I now am used to not having milk in my tea as the milk in most places I have been to is not worth putting
in anyway.
Done some great sight seeing in Luang Prabang we dedicated one day of going to temples and we went to a temple in a cave which was very good, a young Laos boy helped us find are way round with his torch which was very handy. Another day was spent going to a waterfall with turquoise colored lagoons got some great pictures truly fantastic their, it looked like a setting in a movie from lord of the rings.
The water was very cold but that didn’t stop us going for a swim, we met some interesting people in the tuk tuk on the way their some guy’s from Sweden who are filming their entire trip.
Met a guy from Laos called bobby one night who became a really good friend during our time their he invited us to go and play football with him and some locals at what he called the stadium which was basically a pitch behind a school. I really like bobby he had a good sense of humor and he was constantly telling things to do and eat that would give me power. He said to me that he did not have
sex with his girlfriend last night so he would have power for today’s football match; bobby introduced us to some more English guys who together created a team to play bobby’s Laos friends, the Laos players seemed very confident of victory as they wanted to gamble with beer, the terms basically being the losers buy two crates of beer Laos. We accepted the bet and with that we put in a performance and won 5-1, me and Mika really put in a performance as we really didn’t want to spend our traveling funds on two cases of beer. With the win we went to the Laos guy’s local bar and we all enjoyed some beer Laos courtesy of them, we decided to order some chilies and buffalo soup and share it all with the Laos guy’s. The Laos guys where nailing these hot chillies one after another the other English guys where younger and more impressionable than me and mika, I and mika egged them on to eat a big hot chilli. Two of them did and it was so funny they had tears rolling down their eyes and they where gasping for breath.
One thing I forgot to
mention about the football was just before the kick off the referee asked us to stand in a straight line so we could shake hand I guess they copy it from the TV, anyway just before we shook hand we took it upon ourselves to sing the national anthem in full voice you maybe had to be their but the Laos guys found it very amusing.
We did not make any plans to go out drinking in Luang prabang we where happy with a couple of beers and a game of pool but one night we where handed a leaflet whilst me, Mika, and Bobby where playing pool the leaflet was for a temple party. It was a Laos holiday and we where lucky enough to be their at the time so we decided to check out the temple party. The party was so random and really great fun Laos families and backpackers all having a great time next to this temple, it was surreal to my left I could here Buddhist chanting and to my right their where the latest Laos hits playing. Bobby went and bought some snake eggs at one of the stalls there is
a good video on facebook of him eating a snake egg, he offered them to us but we where not keen at the time but after a few more beer Laos bobby got another jar of snake eggs and we tried one, they where not that bad tasted very similar to a boiled egg could of done with a bit of pepper but other than that they where okay. Bobby went on to buy another 2 jars of snake eggs he really liked them, at about 3 in the morning everyone started walking out of the gates with a candle we thought the party was over but for some reason everyone just walked around the town and then started partying again it had something to do with the temple and the religion. We bought bobby a few drinks and got him very drunk mika had to hold him up whilst walking around town I felt a bit bad because he had to ride his motorbike home but we met him the next day and he was fine.
We decided to get the slow boat to chang mai as it was cheap and we had time to spare, after taking
in the views the boat ride was very slow and a bit boring met some interesting people, a French couple who have two bicycles and have used them to travel they started in Europe, me and Mika made a joke about doing that around auz but I don’t think we will do that why to much effort. Had no problems crossing the border this time into Thailand probably because it was buisy and we want the only people their.
I am now in chang mai we are looking to head north soon to a place called pai we have just found out that two of our friends from New Zealand who we met in Vietnam are their so we might leave soon to go and meet them.
