WE MADE IT!!!
Today was an exciting and very long day as we set off on our flight to Asia. Our first flight was on a United 747 from San Francisco to Tokyo for 11 hours. Drury and I had cashed in every single point we had so that we could fly first class on the first flight and then business class on our second flight. We boarded the flight and we were immediately excited as our seats were HUGE! We had so much leg room it was ridiculous. We both had the second row seats so we were at the curvature of the nose of the plane and that did make for a little motion sickness as we taxied. Once in the air the meal services began. I have posted several photos of our meals on both flights.
The first flight I wound up watching several movies and did get to sleep for maybe about two hours before we landed in Tokyo. Transitioning in Tokyo is really easy as you do not have to go through Customs and since we had a tight layover of 2 hours I was a little nervous, but we were through the security
in no time and walked directly to our gate.
When we arrived at the gate I finally got to see our next flight on Thai Airways A380. This is a monstrous plane and I was really surprised at its size as I had yet to see one close up. Boarding the flight was a breeze and our seats were located on the second floor right above the front of the wings in business class. These seats were a little more tight, but I was able to lie flat with my knees slightly bent.
As we taxied down the runway we were next to a Delta 747 and I started to laugh as the 747 seems so small compared to the A380. Take off was extremely smooth and very long. For a moment I wondered if we were even going to be able to take off as we used up the entire runway.
The flight to Bangkok was going to last 8 hours instead of 7 as there was a strong head wind. Both flights were a little bumpy during take off and landing, but for the most part they were smooth. I had some dinner on the
flight and watched another movie before trying to sleep for a couple of hours.
We finally arrived in Bangkok and had one of the longest walks I've ever done at an airport before we finally reached immigration and then got our bags proceeding to Customs. We met our driver that I had set up with the Hotel Peninsula and we were immediately rushed into our BMW sedan and heading off to the hotel. The drive to the hotel lasted about an hour and we finally arrived at the Peninsula at around midnight local time.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful! The pictures do not do it justice.
It is now almost 2am and I need to get some sleep so I can start adjusting to the local time. Very excited to experience our first day in Bangkok tomorrow.
