Saturday Morning I am awaken at 5.15am by the noise from some of the other guests in my dormitory. I was a little cross by this as firstly it is fuckin 5am & secondly they were being so bloody loud. I know i have been getting up myself at 6am most days but i do it very quietly - like a mouse - and respectful of the other people in the room. (I am on a rant here, just give me a moment...lol)
*breathes, ooooooh*
Right...i could not sleep after the morning madness so i got up at the same time and went to get some breakfast & sit in the morning sunshine. After a few hours i go to pack my stuff & get ready to catch the bus up to Tokyo. I am playing at Club Roots, Koenji. The night is called Death Inferno Extreme & is being promoted by Redd. I am really looking forward to it, cannot wait to see what the Japanese think of Speedcore & how they dance!
Okay, i wont bore with you details of killing time shopping for clothes around Shinjuku in the day & how much it did my
head in because it was so busy. However, i did go for a delightful meal before i went to the club. All the menu was in Japanese so i had no idea what i was ordering although it was excellent. The food came to you in a cooking pot & you cooked it yourself on a little gas stove. Very Cool!
Death Inferno I meet the crew at Koenji Station @ 9.30pm. We get to the club slightly before kick off so that we can set up & do a sound check - the usual shizzat. The previous event had overrun so by the time we get into the venue and set up we end up opening 30mins late. TBF i have never known an event open on time!...haha
The club is a small venue with a maximum capacity of 80 people. It is dark & dingy and has an adequate sound system. I get the impression it is mainly a gig holding venue as it is the type of layout & feel of a dirty rock venue that has sweaty mosh pits!...
The first few hours of the night is Dutch Style Gabber/Hardcore. I spent
most of them backstage getting to know the crew & generally getting drunk and having a good time. Dutch style is not really my thing, however, the crowd are loving it & it feels right for the time of the night. The progresses on and soon enough the harder music begins to get played. A nice mixture of DnB/Breakcore gets played n harder Breakcore by LaLa. LaLa is accompanied by a scratch artist DJ who goes well with LaLa style. However, as much as I love scratching by the end of the set i was happy to have the break. He didnt seem to give it a rest throughout the whole set & kinda spoiled some otherwise great tracks. Not only that, he seemed to only have 1 technique.
I do feel awful saying that, however, he was a good DJ he just needed to know when to SHUT UP!...hahaha <3
After LaLa it was my set 3.10 - 4.10 to be exact. I was really hyped up by this time & proper eager to get going. The 2.5 hours of Breakcore certainly needed pushing into the harder edges of music. I started my set with some DuranDuranDuran
but quickly got through the Breakcore into Hardcore. The crowd obviously needed some hard kick drums so I gave it to them. I was jumping arounbd like a loon. I can say it for the Japanese they do know how to hype the place up with their mental attitude! - Finished my set with some dirty-assed Speedcore. I dont think i have ever seen a crowd go so mental to Screamerclauz!
Redd came onto the dex after me, playing Speedcore from beginning to end. I was buzzin my tits off & stomping at the front. I got everybody doing the Terror fist & had a few compliments about the set.
All in all a great night was had. By the end i felt like i knew everybody & had learnt some extra Japanese!.
Finished it proper English style mind & went for a McDonalds Double Sausage & Egg...ahaha
