My third time in Japan and I loved it! Tokyo was great, as always, but this time I got to visit Niigata. It's definitely less touristy and more authentic Japan, which you notice when you walk around the city or try to find a restaurant on Tripadvisor (and you can't). There's a modern part of the city, old part, a small aquarium, river Shinano, beaches on the Sea of Japan - what more do you need! And I had the freshest sushi with all sorts of fish, even flying fish, which I never saw in Tokyo. Also, they say they grow one of the best types of rice in the country - which means excellent mochi ... mmm mochi!
