Well, I'm back from my trip and I'll keep posting interesting stuff and pictures for everyone to see ...

July, 2009
Everyone knows that I love travelling. Even my three-year-old niece calls me Dora the Explorer, the big one, while watching little Dora on TV. Yes, I do look like her a little bit. I'm going to be spending a year in Europe, from July 2009 till July 2010, travelling from Toronto, Canada to Novi Sad, Serbia then London, Greece, Switzerland ... I'll be posting pictures and maps, writing about cities, architecture, culture, and food. There'll be lots of pictures of food, especially cakes, chocolates and similar sweets. You're welcome to write comments, questions, and I'll try to reply asap, unless I'm travelling, of course.

This was my third time in New York City and once again, there was lots to see and do, and not enough time ... But in 3 days, we managed to see a show, Avenue Q, which was a lot of fun, and to see Warhol and Pollock at the MoMA, which was amazing too. And I had too many New York style cheesecakes, not my favourite type of cake, but when in Rome ...:) But the best food we tried was at Nobu, which does not serve traditional japanese cuisine, but a delicious twist on the japanese food in a very nice atmosphere. However, I enjoyed food too much, and this time, I completely forgot to take pictures of it ... well, next time then. :)... read more

My nephew Nikola asked me about Halloween and how people celebrate this holiday in Toronto. It's best described through pictures, and I've taken many, but I'll write notes in Serbian, as he is still learning English. To his mom, whose birthday is on Halloween: happy birthday Branka!... read more

This was my 6th or 7th time in Greece, but I've never been to this penninsual, Sithonia, and a small village, Toroni. We (my family and I) enjoyed the wonderful weather, even when it was raining one morning we didn't want to get out of the sea, as it was very warm, until thunder and lightning started chasing people all over the place. I wanted to take lots of pictures, but I always somehow forgot about my camera, waiting in my bag. Still, you'll see some of them here, which will give you a good idea of this place and amazing nature, crystal clear sea, long beaches and great food! We also spent two days in a bigger town, Nea Moundania near Thessaloniki, which also has a very nice long beach. Overall, what I'll remember the ... read more

Can one travel from Toronto, Canada to Saint Petersburg, Russia and back in 4 days? Yes! At first, the idea of going to Russia for a weekend seemed quite crazy, but now that I'm back, and still a bit tired, I can say that it was definitely worth it! Where do I begin? Should I tell you how everything seemed so big, vast, far away or that the city is full of history, contrasts, beautiful churches and palaces? Yes, and that's what I expected, but actually being there and seeing it yourself is something quite different and wonderful, as any traveller can tell you. And there are many tourists in Sankt Petersburg, which you'll notice on my pictures. Unlike some tourists, we tried to see the main attractions, but not all, which is impossible in three ... read more

Peterhof or Petrodvorets is a small town some 20km from Saint Petersburg where Peter the Great built his summer palace. The palace also known as the "Russian Versaille", which basically tells you everything: it's enormous, unbelievable and a must-see when in this part of Russia. We spent almost the entire day there, which was nice as it was a very hot day and all the fountains and ponds in the lower and upper gardens were very refreshing. Enjoy the photos ... or plan a visit, you won't be disappointed.... read more

May was wonderful! We spent those four weeks in Spain, mostly in Madrid, but also visited Toledo and Tenerife. What can I say about Madrid? Well, I know that I would go there again, without hesitation, since it's a city that never sleeps, with lots of squares, restaurants, good food, interesting events, history, culture and nice people. I was expecting to try some great seafood, which I did, but to my surprise, I also found a lot of interesting patisseries and tried delicious cakes and hot chocolate. During our stay, there were a few festivals, which we greatly enjoyed, especially when we got to see the elderly people wear traditional costumes and dance in the street together with the youngsters. I will let the pictures do the talking, since I am a bit tired, but very ... read more

Toledo is an old town, a former capital of Spain, a nice place to visit and quite different from Madrid. The most impressive sight in Toledo is the Gothic cathedral from 13th century. This is probably the largest cathedral I have ever seen, also the most decorated one, and with the most interesting objects in it, such as paintings by Goya, van Dyck, Velazques, etc. The streets in Toledo are narrow and most of them in the core centre of the town have some kind of a cover over them, probably because it can get really hot in summer. Toledo is just half an hour away by train from Madrid, and I highly recommend visiting it.... read more

Four days on Canary Islands, more specifically on one island, Tenerife, was enough for a short vacation. It's not that I didn't like Tenerife, but rather found it different from what I expected. This is a volcanic island, and seeing beaches with black sand was interesting, until you walk into the water and it looks like you're walking in muddy water. There are beaches with golden yellow sand, but this sand was brought here from Africa, which is less than 300km away. The volcano is in the middle of the island, and the towns and vegetation on the north are much more beautiful than the south, since it rains a lot. However, if you want to enjoy the sunny warm waters, then you need to go south, which we did. Unfortunately, the south is turned into ... read more

This wasn't a tour of the "castles" is Serbia, and those aren't Neuschwanstein type of castles but rather fortresses/palaces/mansions, and we weren't planning on visiting just those old manors, but rather decided to spend a weekend just driving around Novi Sad and through Vojvodina (province) and visiting some historic places we knew about, but never had time to see. It just happened that we saw a few "castles" in which, once upon a time, some important people lived. Some of these houses are now museums, hotels, some are in good condition, some are dilapidated. I wanted to see Fantast, a castle near Becej (town in Vojvodina) built in late 19th century by a wealthy Serbian family who also owned a few other mansions, which we also visited on our way there. Aleks wanted to visit a ... read more
