So this weekend was pretty fun! Friday night, I had class at 6, where I was asked by the professor after saying that I am an actress, if I like to drink. Caught me off guard completely. But yeah, the class was pretty interesting. It's about how Japanese respond to thing from politics, economics, and socially. Then EVERYONE except for about 2 people went out to a bar for one of the Jap student's birthday. We apparently spent a lot of money there, and this is one thing I haven't really enjoyed about the Japanese. When going out with a big group, whether you eat/drink a ton, or very little, it's divided so everyone pays the same amount. It sucked because I spent maybe 15 dollars, yet I still had to pay 35 dollars? I am ... read more

Hoshino Kuriko is my Japanese name. Hoshino is my family name (hoshi means star) and Kuriko is my given name (kuri is acorn or chestnut). Luna is the one who gave it to me, well, combination of Luna and tall Tomomi. So it was ridiculous humbid yesterday, due to the oncoming rain which has just started. Apparently it's going to get bad enough that our Mito City tour is postponned till Sunday. It should be exciting, we get to learn to make Soba noodles. MMMMMM! Today is the first day of classes, so the campus is very lively today. Lots of people. Now I can barely walk to Family Mart (the convience store on campus) without having tons of Japanese students call me cute! haha. Um... last night, I taught Luna the Marlyin Monroe Happy Birthday ... read more

So apparently, we have a typhoon coming. Should be interesting, lots of rain, wind, hopefully thunder and lightening, then maybe I can remember what it's like to be back in Texas, I mean, we already have to million percent humidity here, so with thunder lightening wind and rain, it'll be like an old fashioned Texas storm! YAY. Yesterday wasn't very interesting. Went to lunch and Tsutaya with Toshiro, he wanted to see if they had Silent Hill. Which they did, but it's the Silent Hill Zero (or Origins for those in the US) so we went back to his room, met up with Dianna and worked on homework. Afterwards, we started the game. OMG!!! Graphics are amazing! The first cut scene (the opening) seriously like watching a movie. So clear. Then dinner time, which wasn't as ... read more

So, lots of happenings going on here in Japan. Friday night, we went the the hyakyen store (dollar store) and got some essentials, then a few of us, Elmer, Noriko, Natalie, Dianna and I went to a ramen shop, which was soooooo good. Then we had popsicles in my room, which turned into Uno, which turned into tons of free, delicious cake, which turned into 20 people in my little room and singing with music and video recordings. Kinda got a little crazy, but was tons of fun! Then Elmer, Natalie, Luna and I watched Tomomi's rakugo (comedic story telling with dialogue) and Elmer and I hung out in my room, helping me study, for a little bit. Saturday, a few of us girls went to the mall, Natalie, Sarah, Yuko, Norkio and I. We took ... read more

Yesterday we had a tour of the campus, it was ok. It was raining, so it was very wet. Then we helped set up for our tea party, which was soooooo much fun! Tons of people were there, teachers, students, everyone. We had to introduce ourselves and make a greeting, and then we just roamed around talking to people. I was never alone, there were always people surrounding me, it was crazy! My friend Noriko who can speak Japanese really well, said that they love my hair and love being around me cause I am funny? Who knew? I also met the pop culture teacher who wants to take me to Kabuki in Tokyo and wants to help me study the theater here, and possibly a chance to act. Tomomi and I are already planning a ... read more

So, today was placement test day. Not fun at all, so much more advanced than where I am at. At least I'm not alone, apparently Fresno teachers do not teach as much as Northridge. They already know waaaaaay too much Kanji, over 500! I know very little. Oh well, all I know is that I have my goals, to come back able to communicate mostly in Japanese. So yesterday was fun! After we got back from the registration stuff, around 6 we had a tour. After checking e-mail stuff for an hour or so, we went back to the dorms. We took some pictures, just being silly, and when we arrived, a bunch of us with to Family Mart, the grocery store. We had an hour, plenty of time, right? WRONG! We went with Yuko and the ... read more

Wll, I'm here, and it's amazing!! So the flight sucked, soooooooo long. But once we landed, we were greeted with a sign and a bunch of people, customs was a breeze, everyone was so nice, it was awesome! We all met together (we lost the Northridge group for awhile, we Fresno people stick together). I love the group, everyone is soooooo nice. One of my roommates came to meet us, she's a sweetie. I met my other roommate, also a sweetie, when we got of the bus and got swarmed by other roommates. They were soooo nice, taking our luggage and saying hi. I apparently was the anticipated one. Over half of the Japanese students once they heard my name started saying that they heard all about me and were excited to finally meet me, they ... read more

We went for a drive with Yasu today through Chiba and Ibaraki to see Kairakuen, a beautiful garden and house. It's really interesting to see the different types of houses around and I always like going for drives. Tomorrow is a big day for Akira, hopefully he'll finally get to meet his father.... read more
