I am sure this was not the same village my Grandfather left in the 1800's, to find his way to the United States, and to build the future that my family enjoys now. He came to California as a 16 year old boy, and passed away in 1965 at the age of 84. Nagoya is now a very industrial city, and home to the largest automobile company in the world, Toyota. We are going to venture out on foot today, then perhaps take a tour to some castles and shrines tomorrow. Our first stop today is the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology. It is the site of the company's original weaving plant, part of its original mission as a weaver. Our second stop is the Noritake Garden. Noritake is Japan's best known porcelain maker. ... read more

Woke up during the night freezing, put my cardi on and snuggled in my sleeping bag. My alarm went off around eight ish. There were a good few snoozes before I turned the alarm off. There wasn't a soul about and the roads were pretty dead, too. It was about a ten minute walk to the cafe. The place we went to was called Komeda's cafe. It is an institution in Nagoya, I think it's been around for years and there are a few of them scattered around Nagoya. The cafe was heaving when we arrived and we had ... read more

Hello, This is our first blog, we hope you enjoy looking at our pictures and seeing what adventures we have been up to. Although I say we, Ben is at work so I'm doing it on my own which could be interesting. I hope this works. I thought I should tell you a little bit about Osu Kannon, it is a shopping area in Nagoya. It has lots of shops, food stands, restaurants and our favourite supermarket. At the weekend it is very busy and you can tell the popular restaurants because they always have long queues. Sadly I cant remember the historical information about Nagoya castle, I think it was pretty much destroyed in a war and re-built, sorry to be so vague. I do have one interesting fact we can see it from our ... read more

These last couple of weeks have been a bit of a fiasco! It’s not really necessary to go into loads of detail on the blog (since im not entirely sure who the sometimes 100 people are who read it! –many thanks for the support though!) however last Sunday there was quite a drama concerning my host family which resulted in me moving into a dorm mid-term. It’s not fair to them if I go on about what happened on the internet but if you wanna know what happened I’m happy to explain. Anyway, this whole malarchy took a lot of my energy and time just thinking about as well as my moving weekend (I appear to have acquired a lot of things since I came as the number of boxes and cases to move across Nagoya ... read more
