JAVA: Ijen...Danger, Poisonous Gas. Grind, grunt & gouge
You always provide interesting photos. Great photo of the bee pollinating the flowers.Love the description of the roads. Sounds like some of the roads we encountered in Vietnam after the floods and mudslides full of hidden and urgent dangers. Java looks grand. Hopefully, we will make it there some day.

Lunch 2,5 & 8
I had to laugh -it reminded me of trekking in Dogon country in Mali - would you like chicken for lunch? *open cane cover* which one? that one? sure! *crack goes the neck* 1hr later "succulent chicken" mmmm! don't dare ask for seconds :-0 :-0 :-0 good blog david - poisonous gas- probably brought my demise a little closer but what the heck!

Hmmm.water in the rice paddies means planting season...
just keeping you on your toes! As for the volcano, I'm sure you would have gone to the rim if not for the police. At least you were smart to pick a very nice resort to relax at the end of your trip.

I think rice is an all year proposition, plant, grow, harvest as we saw rice in various stages, hence the Before & After shots, and water drained from one paddy to another. However as it was wet season it may be predominately preparing & planting...certainly plenty of water around. As to the volcano...your comments are noted...without admissions! As to the resort...definitely a good decision...it certainly pleased Denise...and isn't that how husband's prosper?

Not surprised in the slightest to see the mention of an active volcanoe and evacuated villages, followed by you having booked in for extra time - shame you didn't get to go all the way in to the crater!
