As a surpise birthday present for my Mum i bought tickets for the family to go to Bali for her 60th birthday. My Brother and his girlfriend would come too so it was a very nice family meet up as they live in Karratha (northern Western Australia). Air Asia had a sale on and for a whole $125 return each we were off - wahoo! We booked in to the Bali Dynasty Hotel as this was our first visit to Bali with a child in tow so we opted for the family friendly hotel....plus it has rave reviews and is within walking distance of most of Kuta.
The hotel was really really nice...the rooms and service were fantastic so very much 4 to 4.5 star. The only downside was the amount of people! and Kids! The hotel pool was packed every afternoon with heaps of drunken aussies and kids runnign around pyscho and the hotel had organised bombing competitions or volleyball games or bingo etc. Probably really good for people with kids as teenagers and it was nice to sit in the toddler pool beside the swim up pool bar and drink cocktails...but not so nice when people would look
annoyed at your toddler in the toddler pool because they splashed their cocktail! It is a toddler pool after all!!!! So it was a bit much for me... a bit too many people and not quite a relaxing feel. But my mum loved it...and loved having the family around...which is why we went 😊 The hotel also went out of their way and brought mum a cake for her birthday...the picked it up from her passport!
The location was so so too...it was about a 10min walk to Waterbom park which was fun as always, but not many cheap restaraunts or bars which are our preferred eating places in asia. Why come all the way to bali to eat in a hotel, we could do that at home! So lots of top hotels along the main road from the airport to Kuta with lots of posh restarants in the hotels, but none very cheap... Anyhoo...we ate lots of nice food and had lots of cocktails so it was sstill very nice to get out and get into the holiday mode. It was only a 3 night trip so we didnt do anything touristy...just walked around the shopping centre and
markets a bit...and up and down the street to Kuta each day looking for food. The Kids Club looked pretty good but we didnt bother using it...there was a good 20 kids following some carers around and they were looking at the Coy in the pond and feeding the other fish etc.
One day we caught a cab over to a dentist (i had googled earlier) and mum had a tooth fixed in her place (fake tooth) for AUS$5! It was going to cost over $250 in Australia so a huge bargain! So definitly worth the investigation for dental repair in the future.
Tuban was a good location for a first time to Bali. My Brother and his girlfriend hadnt left Australia before so were excited to be somewhere different...it is a little less chaotic than central Kuta but an easy walk to look around...and only the one street so you cant get too lost. Also only a 10 or 15 min walk into Kuta for the bars and nightclubs although i certainlly wouldnt recommend the Bali Dynasty for anyone except those with kids...

Hi
Thanks for the pictures. When we had kids your age, we concentrated on family destinations too. They grow up fast and will want to explore strange lands. It's good that you can get cheap flights with Air Asia. I have flown with them too.
