I am more of a restless traveller. Always trying to explore more and more places away from the beaten track. But in the pursuit of the unknown and something exhilarating, I always listened to my inner instincts which have never betrayed me till now. Whenever I travel to a place , I never take the same route back which helps me to see some new places and saves me from getting bored by the same landscapes and places. On my way back from Choukri I just took the less travelled route to Almora. It passes through Berinag , Barechina and chotechina. So when I was driving I noticed a kilometre post with Patal Bhubaneswar 13 kilometres. The name ( Patal means Hell ) itself made me quite inquisitive and on inquring in the roadside tea stall ... read more

HYMALAYAN PANORAMA FROM CHOWKRI Driving through the normal tourist trail of Kumaon ( Uttaranchal ) - NAINITAL- ALMORA -BAGESWAR -KAUSANI , I was just thinking of coming back home. Driving through the hills for 3days was a bit tiring though the roads were extremely good . I was just getting ready in the wee hours of 5th nov,2005 . I met up with another local tourist cab driver in the Kumaon Mandal state rest house. Just as we were talking he asked me about the places I have visited. He then suddenly suggested me of a place called CHOUKRI, where I can get the best view of the Himalayan peaks. I was a bit sceptical. Somehow my wife and kids (5 & 8 ) insisted. So I gave it to the majority. We just started off. ... read more

Took the auto-rickshaw to the Forest Research Institute Museum, set in a 500 hectare park and is housed in a very grand Raj era building - according to Lonely planet its bigger than Buckingham Palace, stat’o. It was a fabulous building and the grounds were beautiful, lots of trees and monkeys. Museum was interesting but it had seen better days. Took a vickram (shared autorickshaw) back to the hotel. Dropped off at the clock tower. A young Indian man introduced himself as I was walking to the hotel and asked if he could spend the day with me. He said he liked to spend time with foreigners. Couldn’t really say no so we went for tea, talked politics. Strolled around the park and an old man lectured us on literature and philosophy, he wrote a quote ... read more

Hello all, Afer Amritsar, we have arrived to Rishikesh which is a nice spiritual town on the Ganga river. I have been there before but I liked to come and visit again. However, it is very touristic. When you enter a resturant, it is the same as sitting in a resteraunt in Israel, almost only Hebrew is heard. I don't like this scene so after 2 days we have decided to travel to a less touristic place. We went north to a place called 'Govind Ghat where you can hike up in the Himalaya mountains. We arrived there after a very long (12 hours) and difficult journey in the local bus. Lo kal in the local bus. It appeared that Govind Ghat at that time is a ghost city. It is off-season and only one guest ... read more

Took the bus to Dehra Doon, squeezed right in. Met an American couple who live in an Ashram. The man used to be a software engineer, he had a huge 'Unix nerd turned spiritual seeker beard', geezer. Dehra Doon is the capital of Uttaranchal, it’s noisy and polluted. Stayed at Motel Himshri, very nice. Brought a beautiful guitar, case and strings for £27.00, bargain. Played that all night. Had Aloo Gobi (potato curry) - very tasty, my Israeli friend recommend it. ... read more

Walked to the Beetles ashram, 3/4km. Disappointed because it was run down and the gates were locked. Saw an amazing ceremony at 6.00pm on the Ganges. There were hundreds of people sitting on the stairs, in the middle was a bearded priest, bellow and beside him were singing children and musicians. It was beautiful - one of the many highlights of Rishikesh. Spent time with the Israli couple next door. Very friendly. Exhanged email addresses and we'll keep in touch. ... read more

Saw a classical India concert in Swarg ashram. Talked to an Israeli woman on the way, she'd been living in an Ashram for a year. She recommended loads of Yoga teachers to me. Concert started late but it was worth it. First acts were six Indian school girls, sounded nice. Everyone moved forward for the second act. Local group, a vocalist, violin and tabla. The tabla player was really good. A guy I met was really going for it, dead strange dancing ala Bez from the Happy Mondays. Tried my best to bite my lip. Last act were awesome. Apparently the best Tabla player in India with two sitar players. He lived up to his reputation. An hour or so of improvisation, really impressed. Strangest part of the night was at the end. Everyone clapped in ... read more

Walked to Red-Chilly adventures and asked advice on a local trek. Decided to head for the waterfall. It was a 4/6/km walk. Stopped off at a Chai shop on the way and ate and drank tea with a group of Indian students. They were very polite. We exchanged emails and took pictures. The shorter walk through the forest to the waterfall was beautiful. Many species of butterfly and the water was very clear. Met a group of Israeli lads, exchanged stories about our travels. Decided to walk higher to see the source of the waterfall. Eventually we spotted a cave where several Hindu Holly men were living, walked through the cave and we found the main waterfall, it was amazing. Walked through the waters, several slips and sat around for half and hour or so. Great ... read more

Walked to Lakshman Jhula. Its very quiet, full of cobbled streets and Hindu Holly men. Used the bridge over the Ganges to get to the 13th-storey temple of Swarg Niwas. Amazing views from the bridge. Removed my shoes before I went into the temple. Walked around each level. There are various shrines for each Hindu deity. As the pilgrims walked past each shrine they ring a bell, a call to pray - Eno would love it here. Walked around the main Bazaar, lots of stalls selling books, clothes, herbal medicine and beads. There were a tribe of monkeys on a fence, an Indian guy was eating nuts and they all ran at him until his gave them up. It was very funny. I've taken a picture of it. Walked to Swarg Ashram. Lots of ashrams are ... read more
