Alex at the Red Fort
Just before she was accosted to pose in pictures with every Indian in India Ok, so we flew from Nashville BNA to the airport on Long Island via BWI, and that was no biggie (except for a stressful delay in Baltimore). But then came the cross-New York train AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! We made it just in time to board our flight to Frankfurt on Air India from Newark, easily then making our connection to New Delhi. This is where our adventure began.
Being tired and not wanting to haggle with taxi drivers immediately off of the plane, I thought it best to buy a pre-paid taxi slip. A driver found us, and Alex and I were happily on our way into Delhi. The taxi driver was SO NICE that he gave us a 2 hour tour of delhi, because the road was "closed" to Pahar Ganj (where our hotel was), saying we should stay in Karol Bagh (where prices are x10 and commission paid to the driver). Eventually we made it to a hotel, though, in the district we wanted to be in. What a jerk :P
Now that we have adapted to the 24/7 hustle that is Delhi we are doing much better. Everyone is trying to sell something, or "practice english" (read: sell
It's HOT
41+ Degrees C something), or "show us around" (read: sell something). The food here is alright, though when we have eaten a little bit more off of the tourist beat, it has been a lot better. I'm already craving more dosa, giant south indian pancakes filled with veggie goodness.
It has been hot, around 42-43 degrees celsius, but we have stayed hydrated! We saw a number of landmarks, and went to the National Museum to see really awesome artifacts, and some great statues that would have been perfect for the "mimic photo" except that they wanted 300 Rs for us to bring in a camera (five dollars). So we didn't.
Hope you all are doing well, heading to Agra today, and will have another post shortly!
