We left for Gwalior on morning of 28th may. Reached there at around 4pm. After meeting the relatives, we went to the hotel, where I took a long nap. In the evening we left for the marriage and by the time we reached there, the “barat” had already left the house. I joined my relatives in the dance. There were two of my cousins along with 2 nephews and one niece. We all belonged to the same age group. I and Akshat Bhaiya, danced madly and continued dancing even after reaching the place for marriage. We were all sweat and ran for water. After the “Jaymala” I realized that I am going to get bore here. Another cousin of mine (Shekhoo) came up with an idea of going for a movie. The plan involved my Dad, ... read more

Three holidays were coming in a row, so I and my office friends wanted to enjoy its every-bit of moment and wanted to spend our holidays at some new place. After exploring and discussing about few destinations which we can cover in this short time period, we finally decided to visit Gwalior which is about 800kms far from Udaipur. We boarded the train from Udaipur at 10:30 pm on 25th September. Though it took us about 15hrs to arrive at the Gwalior station we did not get bored, how can you… when you are traveling in a group, ranking the SEC beauties, playing cards till 5:30 am and many more things…… We arrived at 3:30 pm on 26th Sep and then we hired an auto to reach the Gwalior fort. We dumped our luggage at the ... read more

Eran viajes largos en auto y muchas visitas a museos y cosas, ... read more

From Agra we headed south to Gwalior. The fort in Gwalior is unique because much of its decorative tile work is still intact. Infact bright turquoise tiles line the entire outter fort wall and decorate the buildings with in the fort. Man Singh Palace (a palace within the fort) is decorated with yellow ducks, elephants and tigers. While the outside seems cheery enough the inside is recessed 2 floors underground and while it was originally designed to keep royals cool in the hot weather, it was converted to a prison by the Mughal's! Super creepy down there! and a far contrast to the ducks out front! Our original plan form here was to head south to Goa and get some sun... We were waitlisted for a train from Gwalior to Madgaon... we gambled and lost. We ... read more

Our last minute train ticket took us to a city, that had a fort and a palace, called Gwalior. However, they really should have called it Squalior! The city was disgusting (or at least the part of it that we saw). In the darkness we lugged our heavy bags the half kilometre to the hotel district. Crossing a bridge over the train tracks our lungs burned from the fumes of the traffic and the exertion from the weight of our bags. We walked past parts of sidewalk that my sense of smell alone told me had been converted into unofficial urinals. There is nothing quite like the pungent smell of undiluted urine (by far the most prevalent unpleasant smell in India). The “hotel district” was practically under the train bridge which gave it a sinister feeling. ... read more

Beards and Champs, Champs and Beards. They go hand in hand really... After marveling at my beard in the mirror for a whole evening, I decided it was probably time to put him to action. Send him out on Fort Gwalior (commonly known as Gwalior Fort) to see what havoc can be wrought. But first, to the Jai Vilas! Home of some of the strangest and oddest displays of excess known to bearded man... Jai Vilas The Maharaja's old palace and current museum, is essentially room after room of randomosity. Unfortunately, such randomness was not accompanied with beards, as for some reason or another, this maharaja chose to not grow one of those famous Indian, chinless beards. For shame! Ranging from several tonne chandeliers to beepers to swans making love to ladies, this museum has got ... read more

Three hours on a local bus to reach this city. I spent much of the ride closing the window, as due to the almost complete lack of shock absorbers, the vibration of the bus even on relatively smooth roads meant that every 5 minutes or so the window would have worked itself open about 20cm, I would get tired of having my hair blown in my face and shut it, then a minute later it would slowly start to slide open again... After arriving in the city we visited the palace of the Scindia family, the former maharajas of Gwalior. I am not a big fan of visiting recently inhabited palaces generally, they are usually full of dusty furniture, stuffed animals etc and this was no exception. Gwalior is one of the poorer cities I have ... read more
