Day 4
Today allowed for a late start. Very exciting .... Santa came this morning; we all got chocolate! Including Najim. Today, as it is Xmas eve, I am wearing my Santa tee shirt. I stick out like a sore the... Lol. Although it is bringing a smile to others.... After an enjoyable breakfast, we set off at ten thirty for 90km drive to Munnar. We were all very appreciative of Nicola's efforts to enhance our long journey by downloading the top 100 Xmas songs for us to have playing throughout the journey. On the way we stopped at an amazing viewpoint, but sadly it was still overcast, so you couldn't take photos, that didn't take away how beautiful it was, the only drawback is that I can't share it!
We stopped off a couple more times, first to see a new church that has recently been built. The churches here are just beautiful! The next stop was at a tree plantation. We arrived as the lady tea pickers were packing and weighing in their harvest. As they waited to weigh in their sacks of leaves, on a tripod of logs as a makeshift weighing contraption, some smiled, some gave the
acknowledging head wobble, others just couldn't quite take my Santa like appearance! Yes, I waded through withy tee shirt and hat on, laughing and greeting them. I felt bad for the poor little boy that cried and held on to his mother!
Fun aside, it was an awesome sight to experience. Their full harvested sacks write so heavy, yet they threw them up onto their heads and walked away from us with grace, and ease.
We stopped to view India's, Little Switzerland' yet another beauty spot. Looking at these viewpoints make it hard to believe we are in India. As we twist along the narrow roads, the sight of the tea plants rolling for as far as you can see, is a sight to behold.
After a cup of chai at a roadside shack we were dropped off in the main street for a late lunch. We opted for vegetarian food in what I can only describe as one level above the tea shack, but we all agreed the food was good.
Then we were off again to the hotel. As we drove by it earlier, we were all a bit disappointed, after staying at the Tigers Roar, we had
high expectations. As we drove into the grounds, our mood lifted, then when we were driven to our small apartments, we were amazed! As we entered, then continued to look around, we came to the full windowed wall to the balcony over looking the mountain from the top; it was definitely a wwooaawww moment for both Tom and I. We had time to do our washing, have a nap, before getting ready four out As dinner and dance. As this is a non alcohol town, we stopped off earlier for Bacardi, coke and beer for our celebrations.
There is so much I could say about our Xmas party but it would take all day! So.... Put 4 Westerners in the middle of Bollywood..... Wwwwwoooaaaawwww.... What a fantastic night !
