Day 13-15 – Hello Hill stations – Spices Babu had yet another man waiting for us 1st thing (7:30am) in one of his (Babu’s) own cars. The car was all decked out with beach towels which we’d find out later why. Sad to say bye to Babu, the boy even hugged him & Babu had a hard day ahead of him as his deceased employee’s parents were coming (we chipped into a fund for them as am guessing no workers insurance for seasonal staff). This was our longest road trip 177km (6000rps) and it was very winding road up the mountains. Both kids puked, although we caught boys in time but the girl was first and got some of the inside of the car – hence the beach towels, d’oh. Think she had 2 goes. After ... read more

On Friday morning we decided to clear the garden area around Del Si. We don't have many tools so we found 2 manky suitcases which had been washed in by the sea and used these to carry rubbish into one big pile. Marc raked the sand and soil which had been cleared whilst I helped Dave clear the back of the house. My Mum won't believe me, but I actually used my hands to pick up mounds of rubbish where spiders, centipedes, caterpillars, ants and geckos had made their homes. The neighbours were watching us and waving every time we looked up. I think they could tell how scared I was so they came over and gave me some chocolate which made the whole ordeal a bit better. The amount of rubbish washed in by the ... read more

Wow! It's been a while since I posted on here and it feels like we've done so much! We left Fort Kochi and headed down to Alleppey where we met 2 women from NZ, a travelling musician and her friend who was visiting her for 2 weeks. We got on very well, and after a couple of days exploring Alleppey we followed them down to Varkarla situated on the coast. We stayed at Sea View guest house, right on the cliff, with wonderful views out to sea. The beaches were a bit smaller than ones we've been used to so far, and the currents were strong! But we had fun. There were plenty of restaurants and shops to choose from, and found it funny at the weekend, as many restaurants brought out their 'under the table' ... read more

Kumily e pacata e fresca. A atracao e o parque natural (e o mito do tigre). Um ex-cacador simpatico e o nosso guia. O titulo nao lhe assenta e o brilho no olhar e a genica dizem que voltara a caca ilegal a qualquer momento. " Nunca fui apanhado!" diz orgulhoso.

We left the hotel having lost a sock but at least they didn't charge for the washing! We travelled into Munnar and visited the tea museum with our guide Augustine not Augusta as I had said and anyway we renamed him Gus. We were shown how tea was produced all the different stages, and shown some antique stuff from the time the Brits were there including mounted animal heads-UGH! The video was really good and altogether a worthwhile experience. Gus then took us in to the tea plantation, not sure why I was itching to leave. We said our goodbyes and because of a road closure we had to go via the back road to Thekkady. This meant a mostly single track winding undulating road and it just went on and on. The vegetation was beautiful, ... read more

Leaving the backwaters of Kerala we travelled inland for about 5 hours by car up into the hills, known as the Western Ghats, and passing several tea plantations on the way. The journey was horrendous with our driver spending a fair proportion of the journey attempting to overtake every vehicle in sight on the twisty mountain roads. Apparently that is the norm and he explained that he just wanted to keep our journey to a minimum!!!!. Our hotel in the hills was called "The Wild Corridor" and that it was. Perched on a hill it offered wonderful views of the jungle but had a disadvantage in that it was very much exposed to the prevailing winds. We soon realised that we had slipped up on our clothing we had packed as the temperature in the hills ... read more

After checking out the night before we started our hardcore journey from Amritapuri to Kumily in the Western Ghats, the southern mountain range between Kerala and Tamil Nadu states. It included 8hrs of government buses with 2 changes. Now you have to have visited India or the Americas to know what I mean by these, they are giant tin cans of fury with supercharged horns and drivers hell-bent on becoming the next Formula 1 discovery. A distinct lack of shock absorbers and open air windows also add to the pleasant journey. On arrival at Kottayam for our second change it was midday, stinking hot and we were starving. Like an oasis in the heat, a hotel rose from the turmoil of the surroundings and we were guided to it by a higher power – air conditioning. ... read more

Die Tiere, d... read more

Posiljali so me z enega terminala na drugega, ... read more
