Handing out BeanieBabies
Back again. Sorry for the delay but the hotel has huge elaborate weddings each evening and with only one computer it's hard to get on it. We get to climb up on the balcony of the hotel and peer into the area in front of the hotel and see the proceedings. Last nights was a Muslim reception and just about the most elaborate sparkly thing I've ever seen. We had the chance to visit Emily's children's home and hand out Beanie Babies and play with the children. Beautiful facility beside a park with babies to hold and a playground. We have also visited the battered womens home, another organization that works on behalf of the poor, and Em and Amy went to a tiger safari. We've gotten to do a little shopping which is just about as crazy as anything I've ever done. We miss cell phones - if you'r separated from your group you'll never find them in a crowd. Luckily we've all gotten really savy about snagging a three wheeled motorcycle taxi and getting the wild ride back to the hotel. I've learned to have my camera on and ready, yesterday I missed a giant horned cow pulling a vegetable cart. It had balls of jingly bells on the end of each horn. Sorry for no photos on the blog. I'll add some when we get home. Tomorrow we take the train to Chennai/Madras with Amy's former social worker Kamala. We will be having lunch today at Emily's children's home. Emily, Amy and a friend are catching an early taxi there to play with the children. We'll get to an internet cafe in Madras to send you news of the train trip. Jenny
