Matt aka CuzMatt aka CuzMatt aka Cuz

Medical student from Barts...and long time friend
Dedicated to Jaspreet Laly - RIP!!

Only 2 weeks previous both Matt and I were partying in Sway Bar, Central London, after passing our Final Medical Exams. Now our pathways met in Bangalore, where we had arranged to meet when in the UK. All was not easy when contacting Matt. He was based in a remote village 1 hours drive from Mysore, and had limited facilities with regards to internet access. The ever present mobile phone reception in India would have been ideal, yet i didn't have Matt's indian phone number, and the UK Mobile lines continually cause problems (no surprise). Eventually a late night phone call from Matt was received on Saturday night... he received my e-mail stating my presence in Bangalore, and was coming for a visit on Sunday.

Matt arrived in Bangalore at 11am after a 4 hour coach ride from Mysore. This deserves admiration, because Matt was aware of my 6pm flight back to Chennai. We only had 5 hours to reminisce about our change of locations, and we appreciated the luck in finally meeting each other. We visited The Forum. the various savvy personnel. Matt munched on a long overdue meat enriched meal. He had been meat abstinent because of the limited vegetarian diet posed by his villages limited resources. We also eventually digressed to a bar and ploughed away some beers, before heading back to the hotel.

It was good to meet up with Matt. This certainly benefited us both, as we realised the extraordinary situation we are both in! Two doctors working in India!...we would never have thought this 5 years ago, when we were fresh-faced panic-stricken 1st year medical students.

I left Hotel Ramanshree, in which Matt was going to lodge overnight. He had an early coach ride the following day back to Mysore, where the humble village setting awaited him. However, my flight back to Chennai awaited me. It was a 6pm flight...and this time there was no fracus!
