Butterly Beach
Our very own private paradise. Apart from the guy taking the photo of course. We are writing this entry from a secret location and at much risk. We are fugatives, on the run, and this may be the last time we can contact you!! Lucy has stolen a book from the library on the beach!!! We have managed to avoid the feds so far, but who knows how long for....
We last left you after arriving in Baga (Goa). Baga, along with calangute, is kinda considered the "Thompson Package spot'. We expected it to be busier, but it was pretty quiet. Mind you, we did notice 15 Coaches of people leaving hurridly just after we arrived (Coincidence??).
On the second morning we decided to walk along the entire stretch of beach between the 2 resorts (Baga and Calangute). This turned out to be pretty eventful. Early into our walk, I was approached by some guys who wanted their picture taken with me. I didnt see the harm so agreed. It was only when one guy took hold of my hand that the real picture began to emerge in my head (That and Lucy laughing her self silly). Turns out that I hadnt noticed that these guys were the campest little Indians you could
Silver service
The Wimledon officials suspected the winner may not be a woman!! ever wish to meet - and relished the idea of a snap shot with a Quote:"Nice big English Guy". So somewhere in the world there is a picture of me holding hands with a short, muscular, gay Indian guy, wearing just his boxershorts (tight ones; and stained). Laugh if you want, but I consider it a massive complement!!
Further down the beach we decided to head into one of the cafes and grab a drink. We hadnt considered that the sand away from the water would be hot (i mean really hot). So about half way across my feet were burning (Lucy had enough sense to have flip flops). There I was, stuck half way between the cool sanctuary of the water and the Cafe. I decided to make a run for the Cafe. Try to imagine me (all 6'3) scampering across the hot sand, knees high, grunting and squealing in pain. By the time I got to the shade I was bright red and in agony, with a group of Locals just glaring at me in astonishment - God knows what they thought. What with that Royal Twerp burning her feet in the bath and me on the
Hoff the 2nd
Move over Hasslehoff! beach, they must think we are a right Nation.
I gingerly walked the rest of the beach next to the sea, with the odd groan of pain as my burnt feet caught a big shell or a bit of rock. We got a Taxi Back.....
The rest of or time in Baga consisted of chilling out at the pool and eating at fantastic restaurants (I see a pattern emergng here!)
After 3 days we left Baga and headed out to Panjim (Capital of Goa) for 2 days. On the first day we set out on our own little walking tour of the town and took in most of the important sights and some not so important ones! Second day, we headed out to Old Goa. Quick History lesson: Goa was under Portuguese control for over 450 years up until the 60s. Because of this, there is plenty of European influence, Old Goa being the most obvious example. In fact, you could be forgiven for thinking your in a Spanish/Portuguese town rather than in India. The whole place is a tribute to cristianity with dozens of huge churches, Catholic schools, nunneries etc etc. Really impressive, and fascinating.
Day Off!
The Local Police hadnt quite grasped the idea of a Day Off! In the evening we returned to Panjim and decided to take a River Boat ride along the Mandovi River. This turned out to be hilarious and wonderful. Each boat has a dance floor where some locals give demonstrations of Indian and Portagese Dances. Then customers are invited to dance. They asked for all the couples on board to get on the dance floor. I saw some people jump up so decided it would be ok for me and Lucy to join them. Once we got to the stage and turned around, it became apparent that most of the people who jumped up, had since bottled out, leaving just us and 1 other couple on the stage!! So we had to do our best to boogie along to This half Indian/Half rave Music in front of a boat load (say 150) of unimpressed Locals. Naturally, I was one of the greatest dancers they had ever seen, but I think Lucy really embarassed us!!
We Left Panjim the next day and Taxied back to Palolem (we missed our little bungalow). We went down to the beach and got a bit of a shiock. Because its end of season, loads of the
beach side restaraurants have gone! I mean, they literally dismantle them ready for Monsoon season. We've Been having fun on the beach ("our beach" as we call it) including me having a game of football with some of the Goan Kids. Again, I was maybe the greatest footballer they had ever seen.
Friday Night we sat down to dinner and ordered 2 nice refreshing beers. To our horror, we were told that there is a 3 day ban on alcohol whilst the Elections are on. Gutted!
Today weve been out on a boat trip to a tiny beach and, as a bonus, to see Dolphins. We did see a few dolphins but my dream to ride 2 like water skis never came true!! Sadly, neither of us were quick enough off the draw to get any photos of the dolphins. The little beach was great and we felt like millionaires with our own private island. Until 3 more boatloads of people turned up......
We are taking a Flight out to Mumbai (Bombay) tomorrow and head out to Bankok in a few days. Due to my inane babbling and curious sense of humour, I am handing the Blog
Boat Trip in Panjim
Better move out the way Javed Travolta is behind me! reins to Lucy for the next Entry (I bet your thinking "Thank god for that"). Thats if the police dont collar us for book theft!!
Bye for now

The picture proves Hannah right the monkeys have finally accepted you. The places you have been so far all look great but I am disappointed you aren't wearing a knotted hanky on the beach. Ruth and the girls say hello and we all miss you. Take care and give our love to Lucy.
