Day 5 - the final day of the trip saw us leave the boat after breakfast with our Chong Qing guide Jeff. He took us to a few places in the city and then to the airport, It was a bit disappointing because we should have checked out a few places that we wanted to see rather than leaving it last minute to him. We were exhausted by the time we returned to Jinshitan about 7 that night. Great trip

We were debating whether or not to hire porters to carry our bags up these steps. Luckily Jeff was there to help us, so decided no.

Home of Chiang Kai-shek

He was a political and military leader of 20th century China. Chiang led the Northern Expedition to unify the country, becoming China's overall leader. He served as chairman of the National Military Council of the Nationalist Government of the Republic of China (ROC) from 1928 to 1948. Chiang led China in the Second Sino-Japanese War, during which the Nationalist Government's power severely weakened, but his prominence grew. During the civil war after the Japanese surrender in 1945, he attempted to eradicate the Chinese Communists but ultimately was defeated by them, forcing the Nationalist government to retreat to Taiwan, where he established a dictatorial regime whilst still hoping to take back China. Chiang died in 1975.

Our guide must have been a history buff, taking us to General Stillwell's house/musuem. Interesting to learn about the Flying Tigers and the Americans close relation with China during the war.

Awesome stuff
Incredible adventure. One of my tenants, a Richard Oland, of the Oland brewing family, had made that trip several years ago. I spent a couple of hours as he showed me a multitude of pics he had taken on the voyage. So I have seen some incredible detailed photos of what you saw and experienced....and I think boating on the Saint John and Kennebecasis Rivers are mystical experiences... Really appreciate being included in your travel log... Nice to hear all about your incredible adventures in China. All the best

Wow, we're amazed!
Keep the updates coming, we're so amazed by all your adventures! Your pictures are great and give us an idea of what you are seeing - we love reading about it too. We often think of you two and how you're doing. It's so neat seeing the people and culture from a Peace Riverite's perspective. Love the blog!
