This statue of young Mao with the wind in his hair over looks his home town of Changsha. Geo: 28.1979, 112.969
We decided to visit Changsha because.....1. It was a cheap flight from Nanjing.2. It will be warmer.3. We haven't been to the Hunnan Province.4. The chance to see Zhangjiajie. Avatar Mountains.Ok..... It's freezing 3 degrees.... All day. No sun and raining!!!From the hotel we went to the Railway station to get the tickets for Zhangjiajie.Make sure you are in the right line and
Changsha. The city.
This is the view of Changsha from Orange Island have all of your information ready to buy your tickets. Write down the train number and time plus the day you want to leave and return. That took about 40 minutes and we arrived early.Make sure you have an alternative.... Our return wasn't available. There was only standing room available leaving at 20:58 and arriving in Changsha at 1:30am.But.... That did give us more time in Zhangjiajie.Back on the metro and off to Orange Island to see the huge statue of the young Mao.
Juzizhou station. It's a 3.3km walk to the statue. The gardens are very pretty with bamboo, blossoming trees, interesting seats with the 12 zodiac animals and various photographic opportunities. The statue is very handsome and it's really nice to see Mao as a young man with the wind blowing threw his long hair looking over his home city. Then back on the metro to find Walking street. Huangxing Road. It's full of shopping chains but just down in the side streets there are various food vendors selling every food you can think of.... Beware the odd smell is Stinky Tofu. It was freezing so we ducked into a coffee shop for something hot to drink, free wifi and to thaw out.
