Mui Ne
The beach town that had tons of kite boarding. See all the colorful kites in the sky. Three days ago Curtis and I arrived in Cambodia!! The last week in Vietnam was very exciting and we saw some pretty cool sites. After we got some tailor made clothes for us in HoiAn we ventured off to Na Trang. We climbed aboard another sleeper bus for a semi-sleepless night to the next major city. Although thankfully the sleeper buses have 3 rows of bunk beds so you actually get to lay down. Na Trang is a beach town in Vietnam. We arrived at 6 am, found a hostel and took off to the beach. But the beach was pretty dirty and after sitting down for one second we had 5 people around us trying to sell us stuff. Oh the wonders of Vietnam. But its all part of the experience. Because the beach wasn't great we decided to rent a scooter and try the Vietnam roads. The scooters are crazy here. We scooted to a mud bath spa area and had this cool mud bath and mineral water soak. That was really neat. Riding on the scooter is a great way to see the city and we were able to check out the Chum Towers and the Chong Rock.
White Sand Dunes in Mui Ne
Monica riding a crazy carpet down the dunes. Yeeeeeee! The next day it poured rain for the whole day so we were forced to finally have a day of nothing and relax. So we stayed in our hotel room for most of it and played cards. After a couple days in Na Trang we took another bus ride to MuNai, another beach town. This place was awesome so we stayed for three days. Curtis tried to learn wind surfing but oddly enough it was to windy so the instructors said it would be to hard to learn. We also went to the sand dunes. It felt like we were in Egypt. At the white sand dunes you take a crazy carpet and slide down the dunes and the sand is so soft that you can jump off the edge into the sand. And it wouldn't be Curtis if he didn't start doing flips off the edge of the dune. It was pretty neat being totally surrounded by sand. We spent a full day getting driven around on the scooter by a Vietnamese guy and checked out the white and yellow sand dunes, the fairy creak, the red canyon and the fish market. It was a great day! It was
White Sand Dunes
Check out the vastness of the dunes. The sand went for kms. With the wind the sand got absolutely everywhere! so nice to spend the next full day on the beach. Thankfully we had good weather. One night we tried some deep fried frog. It was stringy but tasted not so bad. After a few days it was off to our last city in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City. A very busy and bustling city. We saw the Chi Chi Tunnels and the War Reminice Museum on one day. A sad but interesting day. The Chi Chi Tunnels are the very small but 200 km long tunnels that they built and used during the Vietnam War. The museum was heart breaking hearing about all the people, especially children, that were affected by the Agent Orange chemicals that were used during the war. The next day was a lot lighter as we did a Mekong Delta tour. We saw a coconut candy factor, had some yummy fresh fruit and honey tea. We also got to see what it is like to live on the Mekong Delta as we rowed a boat through part of it. We only stayed for two days in Ho Chi Minh City. Our next bus ride we took was over the Cambodian border and into Phnom Penh.
Red Canyon
What they call a canyon is really a ravine, it was still cool though. The best part is the scooter ride to get there, minus the wind as it felt like the scooter was going to tip over. Cambodia is definitely a must see country. Its different than all other countries. The poverty here is overwhelming with lots of children always asking for money, food or your water bottle. I can't even find the words to describe the amazing feeling of being here. The people are all so friendly and although the kids are asking for money they have the sweetest smiles and love it when you have fun with them. The city has some very cool sites. On the bus ride to Phnom Penh we met a great group of people and have been hanging out with them over the last few days. We all took a Tuk Tuk to the killing fields and to the Genocide museum on one of the days. Again, another sad and depressing but necessary to see history. This country has so much history. The genocides were absolutely brutal. Actually seeing the graves at the killing fields site made it all too real. But this is one reason why it is so good to travel to see what this lands history has. The city itself has some amazing sites and today we saw the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda, a couple other
Boogie Board in Mui Ne
Curtis attemtping to boogie board in the massive waves. Apparently it was too windy to learn windsurfing. What´s up with that. Wats and the Central Market. Tomorrow we head of to Siem Riep. There we will have three days to see Angkor Wat. I am super excited to see it. Then crazy enough we already head off to Central America on November 30th. It is so hard to believe that half of our trip is already done and that we will be leaving Asia. It has been so amazing over here. I am so glad we are ending in Cambodia as it is a very neat country. Even with all the poverty, the country has something so unique and special to it. In this country you really do stand out. I just can't believe we are flying out of Asia soon, what an awesome two months. Although we are excited to see what Central America has in store for us. We do hope everyone at home is doing great! Thanks for all your comments and emails. It is so great to hear about home.
