firetwirler
this is the little dude who did fire twriling at Khins Shack Alright, after my last blog I have been accused of being unromantic..and I have two words to say...Dirty Dancing...thats right...our valentines night was capped off with a painfull viewing of the 1987 chick flick Dirty Dancing ..the whole thing....so that makes up for everything else..I figure watching Dirty Dancing or Footloose or Ghost or basically any 80's movie with Dancing or Patrick Swayzie or a dancing Patrick Swayzie cancels out anything horrible that a boyfriend has ever done....
Ok so we spent another day in Phnom Pehn going to the Genocide museam...it was an old school that was converted into a jail/torture center by the the Khmear Rouge....it has now been turned into a museam..you get to walk through the cells (which used to be classrooms) and see the torture rooms and devices..pretty creepy ..but the coolest/saddest/creepiest thing is that the Khmear Rouge took black and white headshot photos off all the prisinors and victims that are now on display... you walk through this room where there is nothing but hundreded of photos of people who were either going to get tortured to death or killed..so nothing but hundreds of
bwpics
These are some of the Pictures that fill the rooms at the S21 Prison..most of these are kids photos of people who look verry scared..
Phnom Penn is a bit of a drag with the history and what not, but very interesting... after all the depressing genocide history we thought we would go down to the beach and relax...
We got a 8 AM bus out of Pehonm Penn and were on our way to Sihanoukville...Cambodias number one beach destination...on the way we watched the movie the Killing Fields and of course the obligatory Jackie Chann movie...Arrived in Sihanoukville fought off a bunch of Touts * and got a hotel room near the beach...
Sihanoukville is excellent, best beach we have been to yet, we are walking distance from a nice long stretch of beach with many bars and resturants on it..all the people here are very friendly....We went to one place on our first night which is run by a family and all the girls in the family fell in love with Leigh and now we get 24hr happy hour service (1.25$ cocktails, 0.75$ beers) and they have invited us to stay with them for free.... they are all really nice and the food is the best we have had
doughnutlady
this is a lady in her pajayams that sells doughnuts on the beach..they all wear pj's here at all times of the day in Asia so far...fresh baracuda is excellent..
On the way home that night to our guesthouse, we came across a cambodian beach party, there were about 40 people dancing in a congo line, I stopped to get some video and they invited us into the line....we danced and then they got Leigh to start dancing on the table...when the song was over they brought us some wine coolers* and wanted us to Cheers!..when we did they all cheared then started yelling "Kiss, Kiss, Kiss, Kiss"...so we kissed and they all went crazy..it was very strange...but fun
One of the coolest/annoying things about this beach is that there are all kinds of vendors trying to sell you stuff...the good is that there are women with massive trays of Lobster on their heads that try to sell you 5 for a dollar..they cut them open for you and put lime and black pepper on them....the bad is that there are lots of kids trying to sell you jewelery or fruit sallad or whatever... some beggers as well, saw this really cool blind dude who walks the beach singing this really sad cambodian song and he has a dog that
moto
driving on cambodian roads are bad enough without a backpack and a unbalanced guitar carries his begging bucket for him....
So we have spent 4 days here now, mostly just hanging out on the beach, we went on a boat trip /island tour, but it wasnt that great...we also went to the outdoor cinama here..really cool, some dude built a huge screen, then a three tiered seating platform where you sit on pillows and eat dinner while watching bootlegged movies all for a dollar....we watched Brokeback Mountain, its about gay cowboys....Im adding that to the list of good boyfriend deeds...if you watch any movie about gay cowboys you are exempt from any wrong doings...
So we have been staying with the Family that owns the beachside bar....they have adopted Leigh as a sister which is cool....the room is not that flash and its a squat toilet out back with no roof, but its free and its nice...oh and the shower is a bucket of water, .... there are about 12 people living there and half the people sleep outside in hammoks and on camp beds, its really cool....
Kids and jobs in Cambodia
I think my favorite part of Cambodia is the amount of kids there are wandering around
leighandgirls
Leigh with some of the girls that lived at Khins Shack at all times during the day and night...they are all over the place.. since there is no public school system here, you have to pay to go to school, and for many families they cant afford it, so the kids have to work, almost every kid here has a job, the smallest ones (4 or 5 years old) collect used bottles and cans... they then move up to bracletts and postcards..then I think they get promoted to jewlery and fruit sallad, then they move up to books, then Lobster, and then BBQ squid...only older people do that, the women carry a large stick on their back, on one end there is a pot full of coals, and on the other end there is the squid and they bbq it for you...its crazy...there are also women who will give massages, manacures/petacures and some will wax your legs....
If and when we get off the beach we are going to Kamot to check out an old abaondened french ghost town in the Mountains, then heading for Vietnam. hopefully next entry will be from Vietnam...

*Wine coolers are gay
**Touts are people who's job it is to
outdoorcinema
this is the outdoor cinema at victory beach...yep Gay Cowboys.... try and convince tourists to come to a particular guesthouse or resturant...Moto Drivers often fill this role because if they drag you to a guesthouse and you stay, they get a commision..
