From TripAdvisor, of course:
You’d think the
most popular hotel on a site like TripAdvisor would cost you an arm and a leg to stay in. However, travelers looking to experience something truly great will be happy to learn that staying in one of the most well-regarded hotels in the world costs a mere $113 a night.
Viroth's Hotel, located in the center of Siem Reap,
Cambodia, has earned the distinct honor of being named the number one hotel in the world in
TripAdvisor's annual Travelers' Choice Awards. It likely won due to its serene landscape, lavish amenities, and remarkable local travel experiences.
Want more? Inside, guests are greeted with mid-century modern décor both in the lobby and in each guestroom. In their rooms, guests can also sit on well-appointed balconies overlooking the area. Or, for a relaxing experience, they can stand under the bathroom’s ultra-large rain showers. Each room also comes filled with locally sourced décor, including fresh flowers.
So, yes, we will stay here on this trip, my third to Siem Reap. We have some dear friends here, who we hope to spend some time with during our three day, two night stay. We are a stone's fling from
Pub Street, though everyone says go elsewhere. There was not Pub Street here on our previous visits.
Pub Street stays open until 4am, long past my usual bedtime. Beers cost less than one USD!!! The real name for Pub Street is Street 08. Running parallel to Pub Street are Alley West, and The Lane, both of which house numerous cafes, galleries, and souvenir shops. The Angkor Night Market is only 5 minutes away. And the best news is that after 5pm, no motorized vehicles are allowed!
This hotel is quite lovely, and a wonderful option versus the big chains. It has a charm, and character, with attentive staff. And a Rolls Royce parked out front. Easy walk to Pub Street and restaurants. The city got their first Starbucks about 3 months ago.
This king bed room is the largest I have had on this trip so far. And a great choice of TV stations, as most hotels offer about 15 only. But like most of SE Asia, we cannot drink or use tapwater.
I think it is so great that the small guy can still be successful in
this business. He also owns a well regarded restaurant down the street. The Rolls out front must be his! And the staff actually outnumber the guests!!!
They actually transported us back to the airport in the 75 Rolls. Nice ride!
