5th day / last day - 28 May 2006, Sunday - Siem Reap to KL Finally we stepped into the Siem Reap International Airport, meaning that it came to end of the trip. Our faces & skins still reflecting the suffer from the hot weather for the past few days. In the boarding room, reviewing all the photos we taken … our best site still the Angkor Wat. We would like to thank the temple restoration team, without their effort we may not able to see the origin of the temples. Hopefully every visitor who comes to the Angkor can take care and appreciate of all those temples. ... read more

4th day - 27 May 2006, Saturday - Banteay Srey & Misc Temples Today our main destination is Banteay Srey or known as Citadel of Beauty which is located far from the town and this is the last MUST VISIT temple to us. Due to the long distance, we have to pay extra transportation fees to the Tuk-tuk driver (normal rate = USD 10 per day but now = USD 15 per day). Along the way we got the chance to see many things, for example the local people activities, houses, markets / shops and etc. Finally, we took about 1 hour ++ to reach there. A little advice here, to take a car to Banteay Srey is a better choice, because the road condition at certain stretch is not too good, so if you were ... read more

3rd day - 26 May 2006, Friday - Bayon / Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm, etc After visit to Angkor Wat temple yesterday, we get very excited and waiting to see more others temple today. Today, we did not wake up early in the morning because we’re not planned for any sunrise viewing. We took our breakfast at the “Kopitiam” just next 2 shops from our guesthouse. The Beef Mee-Hon Soup here was strongly recommended by a Taiwanese in the internet website. The ingredients are Mee-Hon soup + Beef + “Tau Keh” + lime (you have to squeeze out the juice and mix into the soup). It cost USD 1 per bowl. With the local lime juice it enhances the taste of the soup. If you stay near by, you may take a try. This kind of ... read more

2nd day - 25 May 2006, Thursday - Angkor Wat The best time to visit Angkor Wat is in the morning for sunrise and evening for sunset. “Early bird can eat the worm”, in order to be an “early bird” we have to wake up on 5.00am Cambodia time (6.00am Malaysia time). We took a “tuk-tuk” to the main attraction Angkor Wat. The outer limit of the temple is set by its broad moat. We passed the long causeway that over the moat and lead us to the entrance. As we crossed over the entrance we saw something unbelievable! Wow…..at this time already crowed with many tourists. Nevertheless, we couldn’t deny that although we watched the temple from far, but we still can experience the magnificent of the building - The Great Angkor Wat. We walk ... read more

Hi, everybody..... this is my first time to post my journal. I would like to share my experience in Angkor, Siem Reap with yours. I and my hubby (Lim) spent for our 5D/4N trip over there. 1st day - 24 May 2006, Wednesday - arrived in Siem Reap. It was a clear & hot afternoon. We transferred to Guesthouse by car, which provided by the guesthouse. The first impression on the city was the street very dusty. In addition the traffic was a bit messy too. The guesthouse located just about 5 minutes walking distance from old market. We have booked the room in advanced, it cost us USD 13 per night (without breakfast). It is a 3 storey building, the facilities is simple but nice, clean and comfortable. Our room at 1st floor equipped with ... read more

Ankor Wat is the reason most people travel to Cambodia. Tucked away in lush green forests that surround Siem Riep - the local town - are a maze of temples that date back to when Noah was a kid. These temples where built by a gent called Rhayavaraman 2nd, and all are dedicated to specific Hindu gods as well as later becoming Buddha shrines. We started our temple excursion with a sunrise at the famous Ankor Wat, and the rest of the days were spent whizzing around on the most affordable transport available to tourists - electric bikes (tourists are not allowed to use Motor Bikes in Cambodia - they have a nasty habit of crashing). We have tried to capture the temples as best we can....enjoy. ... read more

Hello faithful readers (optimistic I know), After a fab time in Pai meeting top people, listening to groovy live music late into the night & chillin' during the day I made the unpopular decision to start the trek to Cambodia. The journey itself was ok until nearing Cambodia. We got the overnight sleeper train again to Bangkok & at the station we book the 8am bus all the way through to Siem Reap in Cambodia with the expectation that we would arrive by 6pm. At the border there was a change of bus because the roads are so bad. We were put onto a poor excuse for a mini bus & then had to travel at about 20kph for the 150km. The "road" was just a red, dusty, pot-holed track. The bus made more stops than ... read more

Tonle' Sap (largest lake in Southeast Asia) These "floating villages" have a Catholic Church (65% of those who live on the lake are Vietnamese although a very small percentage of those in Cambodia as a whole are Vietnamese), 3 floating school houses, several floating stores, floating pig cages, etc... and despite not having any running water nor plumbing aprx 1/3rd of them had tv antennas (they watch tv via a generator).... read more

sawatdi ka peoples... since the last post I have been to Siem Riep, the city in cambodia closest to angkor wat.... considered possibly some of the most amazing ancient temples in the world by some. the journey began from bangkok (yet again), with a pretty nice a/c bus, that was not full (which in thailand, means that you are leaving the beaten path a little, usually the busses are pretty full or they dont go anywhere). There were about 15 of us in total... Larent from paris, Tam from china, Peekaboo (real name is Wararat) from thailand, Miguel from south africa and alex from germany to name a few who became my travel companions for the next few days. at about 1:00, we ended up at the cambodian boarder crossing at Poi Pet. Cambodian boarder crossing ... read more
