Well we're starting to get a bit more settled in here. The weather's been beautiful it's hot during the day and cool at night- perfect for sleeping! We spent our first night in the tent last night. It was good but a little crowded, will have to get used to sleeping with a huge pack!!! I've definitely decided that the thermarest is the greatest invention ever! Food here is pretty good. We're not up for trying the street food yet (or maybe ever) so we've been eating at the hostel. The food is very good but kind of expensive.

We spent our first day at the KSPCA today. It's a really fantastic facility, so much bigger than I expected! The people there were amazing and you could tell they really love what they do. The dogs and cats are all very well cared for and they seem very happy. They take in any animal needing assistance and then work to adopt it out to a home once it is healthy, sterilized and vaccinated.

Vets stuff to follow:
The vet that works on the small animal stuff will see anything and do anything necessary. She does mostly spays and neuters but also does some dental work and many eye enucleations and amputations. They work completely on injectable anesthetic. For dogs they use Rompun for premed and Pentobarbital for anesthesia! The recovery's definitely a lot slower but seemed fairly smooth. They do a flank spay technique for cats and the regular midline for dogs

Ok vet stuff over!

We started out this morning taking a taxi to the SPCA because we had no idea where it was and didn't want to even think about taking a Matatu! The taxi driver was insane and we almost got into a head -on going probably about 160!( don't know for sure because the spedometer read 0 the whole time!). It cost 1000 Ksh which is about 20Cdn! We were able to figure out the bus system for the way home (much different than matatu- run by the government and very safe). It was only 30ksh so a big difference!

For those of you who know me well you'll be very proud. We've only been here 2 days and already I know my way around pretty well and I keep managing to help us find our way back 😊

Anyways, better close up for now. Tomorrow we're going to try and head out to Hell's gate and Masai Mara NP. Not sure if it will work out since we haven't made the plans yet, but we'll see. I'll bring back lots of photos!

Hope everyone is well at home, don't forget to write!!! So far I've only had one postcard request

Hi Michelle, That is so great for you to be able to experience life in Africa and make a difference there. It certainly seems like an opportunity of a lifetime. Somehow I seem not surprised that you're there trying new things and getting all the experience you can! You're awesome. Hope you keep safe and keep learning. Love ya!!! - Laura
