The next day was when we planned to go to Robin Island with one of the others staying at the B&B. We had to get up early to get there. We had breakfast and went. There was a huge fair and a HUGE line up to get on the ferry. When we got off, it was a total rush to the buses to get going. We got on the third bus. The buses stereo was not working so we all needed to be quiet to hear the man, plus we got to stop cause the engine was too loud, not like the other buses that flew by. I think we got the best bus of the day. We ere shown the town and where Mandella stayed after his jail time. Plus some other famous people at different point after the prison closed down. Then we stopped a nice beach that is protected, so that these special plants that are endangered are protected by the law. We got some snacks and drinks for the trip to the prison. There we got to see the maximum security prison. The type of work they had was shipping away stones and they would give you a
really deadly disease. The guide was late due to not knowing that we were coming so he said to go to where we found the stories of some of the prisoners. Then when the guide came to pick us up, he sent us to another room which was their sports room and very small. Too small for soccer. We were then taken to Mandela's prison cell. it's a 10 x 10 space with a bed and a bucket for a toilet. Our time was up. We saw the guide's cell which held up to 60 people. All the prison guide's were ex-prisoners. That was our finish to Robin Island.
The following day we went on a small bus tour to Cape POint and back. We first got some info. on the town of Cape Town plus the history and why the place was founded. We learned that when they were finding a way to India, some Portuguese adventurers were hungry and were sick from scurvy. The crew forced the captain to turn around and go back, knowing he would be punished. Then a few years later the King sent another, because the Turkish were stopping and making everyone pat
to cross to the Ideas without making a detour through other countries. They got stuck on the way to the Cape Town in a storm and stopped to gather food at Cape Point where they started a garden, a massive garden that could feed the whole ship. They left a couple of people there to keep it going for more ships. That's how it all started. We then went to the only place where they could safely park the boats, because at Cape Town, it was originally called the Cape of Storms. The other bay was nice and calm. There, we went to see penguins that have nested there and won't leave. The town's people hate them but they are protected by federal law. They are really annoying and poop all over the road and eat the garden's vegetables. Plus the keep everyone awake at night. We got to go see all the penguins standing still like figurines, only taking a breath, then freezing again. I got more really nice pictures of them posing for the camera in and out of the nests and swimming through the water, and jumping out. They were kind of boring in the end after
a while. Then we were ready to leave an go to the next place down the road, so we headed out to Cape Point for lunch. We were late getting there. So the guide told us to eat fast, but our food didn't get to our table for a long time. After we ordered our food, it took forever, but it was really good fresh sea-food. The other table had already left from eating. So we were late leaving the restaurant. Then me an Dad ran up the path to get to the top and back before the others got mad at us. The few was beautiful on the top with the lighthouse. There were different stops along the way where you could see the spot where everyone says that it's where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. But it's not true, there is just a rock there not two oceans. Then we ran down the hill to get to the car on time for us to leave for the garden that built it all; the Malaky Garden off the edge of the town. we had so many long drives and that was the last of the day. We got
there and only had 45 minutes till we had to go home. So we almost ran through the garden, but we still had time to look at the sculptures and plants we've never seen before. They were beautiful and called weeds for some reason. I didn't think of them as weeds though. We saw the collection of sculptures that were all unique in their own way. The car then took us back to the B&B. That was it for us.. The next day we went back to Johannesburg, then we went off to Singapore, all in a three day period.
