Hi to all of you, hope you all had a happy festive season and we wish you all the vey besst for the new year. On our side all is going well, Wanda is doing well with her new knee and we are healthy. We met up with some friends that we met here 2 years ago, it was like meeting family that you havent seen for a while, well we spent xmass together and had a ball, xmass lunch like you couldnt balieve, leg of lamb gammon tonque and all the trimmings, realy nice. Still not sure were to from here exept we will be traveling up country towards Palabora, still have to work out a route. Heute morgen haben wir uns voller Tatendrang vorgenommen, eifrig wandern zu gehen. Daher haben wir uns auch gleich in Vollmontur zum Frühstück begeben. Der Herbergsvater hat uns dann anhand einer sehr groben Karte erklärt, dass es eigentlich nur 2 Routen zu je 2-3 Stunden gibt. Da haben wir uns einfach vorgenommen, beide zu bewandern ;-) Zuerst sind wir aber noch in den Shop und haben uns mit einer Karte und abgelaufenem Frischkäse, Tomaten und einer kleinen Wanderkarte ausgerüstet. Unsere erste Route hat uns dann vorbei an einer sog. Lagune (die hier immer wegen der Blätter eine braune Farbe hat) im Wald an das Meer geführt. Offensichtlich ist dieser Weg das letzte Mal vor hundert Jahren begangen worden... Wir sind nämlich von einem Spinnennetz in das nächste gelaufen... Heute war mal wieder ein Reisetag. Morgens verließen wir Johannesburg und flogen nach Port Elizabeth an die südliche Küste. Angekommen nahmen wir unser neues Auto in Empfang - leider hatte die kleine Kiste nichts mehr mit dem Komfort der Kletterkatze gemeinsam. Unser neues Auto ist eine Art Ford Fiesta, nur dass er hier nicht Fiesta heißt. Nach einer Stunde Fahrt machten wir zu einem ausgiebigen Mittagessen Pause in Jeffreys Bay. Dort fanden wir ein schönes, kleines Surferlokal mit Blick aufs Meer - ein Traum! Am Nachmittag erreichten wir Natures Valley und unsere neue Unterkunft im Tsitsikama National Park. Diese Region gilt als Wanderparadies und morgen wollen wir uns auch schon aufmachen. June 17th Breakfast supplies were on low and to top it off there wasn’t a lot of gas left so it was another morning of tea and oatmeal. While the group was having their breakfast we had found a small size soccer ball to kick about and we had a good laugh trying to shoot it into each others tents while we were taking them down. After leaving Felix Unite (our campsite on the Orange River) we headed for South Africa, the border being 10 minutes away. We stamped out of Namibia and while Farron took care of the paperwork for his truck we kicked around the football some more. Set within it's own assortment of micro climates on the Sunshine Coast, Natures Valley has been a little revelation. Off the beaten track enough so that it has escaped the rigors of continual tourist traffic NV offers miles of unspoilt beaches combined with numerous hikes thru rainforest, along cliffs and dry river beds, atop hills and thru fields of six foot tall wild grass(the real wild grass!) daisies and proteas. It is also the starting point for the Otter trail, a world reknowned five day hike to Storms River, our next stop. Our Backpackers, Hikers Haven is a large and very beautiful log and thatched cabin hidden away amongst the trees and although they much prefer real people as opposed to camping backpackers our stay was pleasant.
