Delhi airport is just like any other! Check in desk staff baffled by how you are traveling onto the next destination and unsure of what to do with your bags- queue the panic of not getting your bags at the other end! Security as ever has all its own quirks- this time all electrical items to be removed, even wires. Cue the chaos that is Lauren and Jo with huge bags full of wires, trying to find them all. Finally we got through to departures and thought we would indulge in some last minute Indian cuisine- the final frontier- the Mc chicken maharajah! Now I had mine without chilli's and it was crazy spicy, so god only knows how spicy it was with chilli's- jo tells me bloody spicy! A short plane ride and we arrived ... read more

Cheeky camping holiday in the Cederberg? Oh go on then!! The Cederberg is so close Im wondering why we hadn't gone before. Simba was packed full, we even had a roof bag on, were only going for 4 nights!! We had booked a campsite at Algeria, part of Cape Nature. It was the best camp site choice we felt and yes we did go and visit the other sites. We had a little dome tent, that hadnt seen the light of day for a good 5 years, apparently we were using it to see what sort of condition it was in! Well the fly sheet, the water proof part wouldn't have kept a mozzies wee off us and not only did we stand a good chance of getting wet should it rain but the zips on ... read more

The week leading up to the long weekend had been cold!! Cold even by the South African Standard. From Stellenbosch you could see snow on the surrounding mountains and some of us had been unlucky enough to scrape Ice off the cars in morning. Now this is not unusual for some from the UK but we have central heating. These guys don't, layers, its all about the layers! and boy do you need them. So we finished work on Friday lunch time and headed towards Ceres and the Cederberg. In-between these 2 areas is the Great Karoo and the Tankwa Karoo. We had packed everything! I had got every piece of warm clothing i own in SA! we had extra duvets, blankets and hot water bottles. We were not going to be cold. The first night ... read more

Jaap’s tyre was not only down to the canvas, but through a couple of layers. As a result the 120km ride to Springbok was a rather tentative one. We did however arrive safely around lunchtime, and were hopeful of being able to track down a tyre for Jaap. However it was a Sunday and the day of Nelson Mandela’s funeral, and the tyre outfit was of course closed. Miraculously we met someone who knew the owner and called him for us, but less miraculously he did not hold the tyre size we needed. We spent that afternoon and the Monday phoning around trying to find some way to get a tyre to Springbok urgently. I was running out of time before my flight to NZ, and was keen to explore the back roads on the way ... read more
