This morning we once again embarked on a game drive at the local reserve to see who was out and about. Before leaving, however, we once again heard the monkeys behind the tent. This time I caught them in action as they climbed over the roof of the building behind us. One was a mom carrying her baby. Along the way we found the dependable hippos, along with elands and Sable antelope. We also found some new birds. After lunch we boarded the big bus to travel to Entabeni Game Reserve to continue our hunt for the Big 5. Our goal was the find the lions or the leopards. We found the lions resting elusively behind a stand of trees only knowing of their presence by occasional movement behind the trees. We did not find a ... read more

Don't ask if we love our new home....my only regret, is that we didn't move here earlier! We had to do some administration duties in Pretoria last week. so after three full weeks of school holidays and diving with Tiffany, we dropped her to school on Monday and drove the next 5 hours up country to Pretoria. We stay a total of three nights at the Sheraton Pretoria. As explained before, the hotel is a bit of a joke when it comes to service....but let say they start to know us and are a little more cautious...making it a cheap and decent stay. on Tuesday, I ended up playing Pecanwood. The course has been designed by Jack Nicklaus, 45 minutes West of Pretoria, and ranked in the top 40 of golf courses in South Africa....green fee ... read more

The morning game drive starts early at 6 o'clock just after sunrise. It's bitterly cold but it is the time where it is possible to find the animals. You have to take warm and wind braking clothes on. This morning we found the cheetahs walking on the road close to the fence of the Reserve. The cheetahs were interested in some Impalas on the other side of the fence. Later in the day the heat was catching up and it became really hot. Animals try to stay in the shade of the trees. A giraffe had kneeled down under a tree to get some shade The aim of the afternoon trip was to visit a breeding centre for the white lion and to visit a Pedi village. The village is a museum because it is impossible ... read more

All tiredness from a long flight suddenly disappear when we draw into the Entabeni range area. Alongside there was a Giraffe family. We draw around to get closer until we were few meters from the big animals. The trip started when we went straight form Johannesburg Airport to Pretoria to se one of the capitals of South Africa. Along the streets in Pretoria the Jacaranda trees were blossoming with the most beautiful purple flowers giving the town a special look. We couldn't get out of the bus because of danger of being robbed. After having the lunch at a pancake house we drove to our destination – Entabeni Game Reserve. As we drove into the park the fun began there was Impalas along the road and suddenly we saw a Giraffe standing close to the road. ... read more

It took 3 1/2 hours from Johannesburg to get here in Entabeni Private Game Reserve in the Limpopo Province. Made it a couple of hours before sunset. That means we do our first safari drive today. And we were in luck to have Henri as our safari ranger. Fresh out of teens, on his first job, on his first guiding assignment. We climbed the safari cruiser like we do it everyday. Must be the adrenaline. After all, this is our very first safari experience. So imagine a bunch of greenhorns in one cruiser, giddy with excitement on this high-octane adventure searching for the Big 5. Our first rhino sighting was soon followed by more sightings of wildebeests, giraffe, impalas, warthogs. Young Henri tried to impress us with his expertise on dung. He would stop the safari ... read more
