Toutes mes excuses, je me rattrape immédiatement !

What happens when you stock nicely your pictures on a separate device and than go travel for a full month? Well, if you forget your device at home...not much, except that your next blog will have to wait for a while. This is exactly what I did, so I can finally now give you a blog of a little holidays, which happened some three months ago. There is not only diving at home if you are in South Africa. Even if I have to admit, diving at home is better. There is also Sodwana at the top end of the South African coast, just before you reach Mozambique. So we went to explore. Sadly for us, it is the big week-end holidays, so the place is crowded and we could only dive "2 mile". The water ... read more

Here we are, another amazing week-end in South Africa. It all started with a round of golf and a little wine tasting on Thursday in Durban. The city is just a 90 minutes drive north from home, so can be also done on a one day trip. I play the Durban Country Club. This year, the course ranks 5th in South Africa, and back in 2015, they made it to the top 100 Golf Courses by Golf Digest. It was not a special golf day, so no discount green fee here. Still, it was only 30usd for the green fee! You won't find that sort of deal outside of South Africa when it come to play golf on amazing golf courses. Later on that day, we went for a little wine tasting at the local Makro ... read more

That silly idea I’ve always had about one blog per country unless I live there is becoming untenable as the list of countries I haven’t visited is dominated by some pretty distant, obscure, and little visited destinations. I will get to them; but it might not be anytime soon. Still, it would take somewhere pretty special to make me break this one blog rule for the first time. The Drakensberg did it. After three trips to South Africa I finally made it here and if I would have known how stunning it is I would have been here sooner. Anyway, I was working here for the PhD so that’s kind of living in a place, isn’t it? So maybe I haven’t broken my rule. Incredibly coincidentally, or perhaps due to me steering people I would be ... read more

Africa » South Africa » KwaZulu-Natal » Shelly Beach March 13th 2017

Here we are, after speaking about it for years, we have moved! Our new home is right on the beach, some 130km south of Durban. Why here? Simple, the wine and food that South Africa is providing are amazing. This must be the best deal ever when it comes to play golf. I have 7 golf courses less than 45 minutes drive from home...at a quality/price ratio that cannot be beaten today, anywhere...in the world! But the best, is that every morning, I just have to cross the road in my wetsuit to get to the dive center! Yes, just crossing the road in my wetsuit...and that diving is just amazing. The pictures on the blog are just the best of the last 11 dives, trust me, it was not easy to chose the best ones! ... read more

Africa » South Africa » KwaZulu-Natal » Shelly Beach November 6th 2016

Shall we blog about the place that we call home? I think so, there is something beautiful about sharing the place where you live with the world. But wait a minute....we are not living yet in Shelly Beach, you'll have to wait my next blog about Shelly Beach, coming sometime in April. Till, as Tiffany has been in school till January just over two hours drive from here since January....and as the end of the school year is fast approaching, we already nearly call this place home. I spent in Shelly Beach 12 days with my two ladies end of September. Tiffany had some holidays to celebrate the end of the Third school term. I was back few weeks later, end of October to smooth few details about our move here in early 2017. What do ... read more

Africa » South Africa » KwaZulu-Natal » Saint Lucia October 10th 2016

Got up early again to have a cruise down the estuary to watch for hippos and crocodiles. We weren't disappointed as we saw both. Thankfully the rain had stopped and it was a beautiful morning. Following this we had a great game drive with a wonderful guide who showed us not just animals but plants and insects. The strangest were the red locusts and flying dung beetles!! We then travelled down to the Indian Ocean. The sea was quite rough but some of us chose to jump up and down over the surf. I had a go at body boarding which was a great experience being pulled along with the tide. We then had lunch overlooking the ocean surrounded by monkeys who wanted to take our lunch! At about 8pm we had a night safari which included ... read more

We left our camp at 5.30am to ensure we got to the gates of Hluhluwe-Imfozi sadari park at 6am when it opened. We used the 4WD vehicles in the park and it was not long until we saw our first White Rhino! These are an endangered species and this park is the best place in the world to see them. Later on we were very lucky to see them very close, as well as zebras, elephants, antelope, giraffes, and birds of prey, We were supposed to have a BBQ for lunch but it was raining so we went to a restaurant where I had an ostrich burger. It has a distinctive taste but very appetising. By the time we left the park it was raining quite hard. We still stopped by the estuary at St Lucia ... read more
