Well, we are on our way back to Canada tomorrow and over the past few days we have been able to reflect on our year here in South Africa. As a kid, on most nights at the supper table, my parents would ask me "So what did you learn at school today?" I hated that question, because although I was learning new things every day, I never really noticed and I hated having to think about it and come up with a clever answer each day. A few people have asked me, "So how has it been in Africa this year?" and I have really had a hard time answering that. It's not because we have had a bad time here, but actually the opposite. But the difficult part is trying to put into words what ... read more

I know it's only been a few weeks since our last message, but I thought that most of you would want to know what has just happened here. We're Not in Kansas Anymore A week and a half ago, a tornado struck the community of Bhekulwandle, where the Seed of Hope is. It was a beautiful Saturday evening when at about 6:30pm the sky suddenly turned greyish/yellow. The wind turned fierce and huge drops of rain and hail came down almost sideways. At our place, the patio door slammed shut so hard that the glass in it shot out of the frame and smashed onto the ground. It was certainly the most intense storm I have ever been in. But within 6 or 7 minutes it was over. As Shauna and I boarded up our window ... read more

So I was just looking at our last blog update and it was three months ago! It seriously seems like it was only a few weeks ago. I guess time flies when you are having fun. Well, let me fill you in on what has been going on over the past few weeks. So You Think You Can Dance... Two weeks ago we were invited to a friends Zulu wedding. What an experience! The invitation said that it started at 9am, so when we rolled up at 9:10am I figured that we would have to sneak in the back. Little did I know that I was just in time to help decorate and set up the sound system! Then the singing began. We sang and danced and sang and danced and sang and danced, for two ... read more

Hey, it's Shauna writing to update you on our lives here in South Africa. Scott should be back next time with his sense of humour and tear inducing stories, though. I've proven that Scott should be in charge of the blogging duties, since it's taken me over a month to finish this entry. I'm sorry it's so lengthy, we've had so many great experiences here so it's difficult to choose just a few to share with you all! We only have four months left before our year is up so we are trying to take every opportunity that comes our way and to enjoy every minute that's left! Little Lwazi First things first, I wanted to update you on our miracle Lwazi, (the little boy from our last blog who was run over by a car). ... read more

So it has been quite a while since we posted any updates on this blog. It's not that there aren't a lot of things to talk about, but I guess after a few months of being here, things don't seem as newsworthy as they did when we first arrived. I think that maybe we just don't realize how crazy some things are when we are in the middle of them. Sometimes though, a day comes that stands out as newsworthy. Unfortunately that's not usually a good thing. Sometimes No News is Good News On Wednesday I was working at the Seed of Hope Centre and was packing up at the end of the day. I was the only one around as Shauna and Karen (a South African missionary) has gone out to visit the family of ... read more
