Lake Kivu
This is where we stayed for two nights, it was gorgeous Arrived in Kigali, pinching ourselves that we were actually there. We got a taxi into the centre to take us to a hotel that we had picked out of the guide book only to find that it had closed down. After some walking around with our bags we got a room in a cheap but friendly hostel -La Caverne. From 5 star to no star with nothing in between.
Kigali is a city of 600,000 spawling over a hilly area. It was dusty and hot but the streets were clean - plastic bags are not allowed at all in Rwanda.
On Sunday we got a mini-bus - Toyota Hi-Ace - with plastic seats and 17 other passengers to Kibuye. Three hours, a lot of winding roads, and a man behind us being sick out the window, we arrived in the comparative calm of Kibuye on the edge of Lake Kivu in the west of the country.
We caught motor bike taxis to a guest house on the lake and stayed there for 2 nights. It was really beautiful, our room overlooked the Lake so we watched the fisherman come and go and took a boat tour to the nearby islands.
