"This morning, we journey over the Moyen Atlas to stop at Midelt. This is a beautiful alpine area. Surrounded by huge pine trees and a tranquil mountain setting, this is a great spot to cool down and relax after the hustle and bustle of Fes. We will enjoy a small hike in the afternoon. We spend the night in this mountain location. Overnight Midelt (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included).”... read more

Greetings from Midelt, Morocco, as I enjoy a gin and tonic and paprika flavoured potato chips. We have a couple of hours to rest in our room here at the Hotel Taddart before dinner at 8 pm. We had another leisurely breakfast this morning at our riad, and left about 9 am for our drive to Midelt, with various stops along the way. Our first stop was in Ifrane, a small town located in the Middle Atlas mountains. It was built by the French in the 1930s, deliberately to look like an alpine resort. The town, at an elevation of 1,664 metres, gets lots of snow in the winter and is a skiing area. It was markedly cooler in Ifrane, compared to Meknes, due to the elevation. We had a coffee, and a WC break, and ... read more

We continue to be blessed with perfect weather, no rain( although it's meant to be the wet season) & cloudless blue skies. Today was a 4 hour drive to Midelt to start of a journey through 3 specific geographic regions of the Atlas mountains. Leaving Fez we soon start a continuous gentle climb to the middle Atlas mountains signified initially by intensive agriculture in fertile valleys and changing to cedar forests and flattening out to a treeless, rocky plateau and the occasional nomadic shepherd. Today was a moving day and our stop in Midelt was mainly an opportunity to break a long trip to the Sahara with breaks to wander through ex,a weekly Berber market, enjoy a Moroccan BBQ lunch and an easy walk to explore a traditional Berber village. Our overnight stay at Auberge Jaafar ... read more

Fes was an amazing experience and a very long day, as our guide was ready for us at 10 and continued to show us around until 6. But it was worth it as there is no way we would have found all those things alone. The next day we took a short country route to Ifrane to see the town and also sort our internet out. After a long time in the phone shop we then headed to a campsite near Azrou. Last time we camped at Amazigh as the original campsite we headed for at euro camping, had a crowd of touts outside. This time round there wasn’t a single person, so we headed in and dumped Dads truck. We then headed back up the road to find the Barbary Apes that live in the ... read more

This short video clip is just an example of the Video shot using the superb Go Pro head cam. The only problem is the size of the files, some up to 3Gb. This is the smallest one we have at 40Mb, which will still take an age to upload. Should play/download OK though.... read more

Time in the wild reminds me how much of what I ordinarily do is mere dithering, how much of what I own is mere encumbrance. The opposite of simplicity, as I understand it, is not complexity but clutter. - Scott Sander Leaving Fes, we head out, swapping train for the inevitable tourist mini-bus that always makes a show on these group tours. As mini-bus standards go...this one is pretty good, comfortable, air conditioned and spacious enough to allow each person a window seat, on both the sunny and shaded side of the bus. Off the railway and on to the roads - this is starting to bode well for my search for sand dunes... at least until we start heading across the Atlas mountains and hit the alpine ski resorts! Ski fields, pitched roof houses and ... read more
