Day 11 - Leaving Aït Ben Haddou, going to Marrakesh
Oh yes.... Another good nights sleep, I never fail! The really heavy blankets make me so comfortable! We were up naturally at 6.30; showered, and ready for breakfast at 7. It's been s good group for timing. We've never had any latecomers!
We set off at 8am for Marrakesh. I sat with Sarah today. We watched Philomena, but although Saerah was enjoying the film, it wasn't good for her travel sickness!
After about 90 minutes, we stopped for coffee and toilets. I felt sorry for Sarah, she's suffering today!
Poor Sarah, the further we travelled, the worse she got... Until she was so sick!
The drive is really scary. The mountains are so high, and the roads are narrow and winding, with horrendous hairpin bends. I daren't even look at of the window. I'm concentrating on the film on my iPad to get me through this part of the journey!
We stopped a few times, at one of the stops I bought the best camel wool jumper... Ever! I'm going to be covered in camel.. Lol
Although Sarah was really not well; she
improved enough to also buy a jumper. It just proves; you are never too ill to shop!
We've had 4 hours in the road.... Pheww... I'm looking forward to arriving at our next destination!
We arrived at our hotel, it's like a maze! Hotel Oudaya. It is in the new part of Marrakesh. We dropped our bags in our rooms, then set straight off to buy train/bus tickets. I walked with Cy and Sarah, we stopped off on the way for a sandwich and coffee.
As they bought their train tickets, I ran off to buy my bus ticket to Agadir. We met up with Vikram, and the two Canadian Heathers who were also buying their train tickets. All done, we returned to the hotel to meet up with the whole group in time for the tour of Marrakesh.
Marrakesh is split into two parts, the new and the old. The new was built by the French; the old part, known as the Medina, is authentic Moroccan part.
We left Mohamed and the bus for the last time. He has been a great driver! I have never seen him at any time without a huge
smile! Great job Mohamed!
We started our walking part of the tour; the first stop being the Bahia Palace. It is beautiful, but I got bored pretty quick! We left there to walk to a museum; I didn't even go in! I have realised that I usually sleep on the bus, but today I watched a film, therefore didn't sleep, and that is why I am so tired, and just can't concentrate on this stuff!
I am pleased that Chakib rang me; he confirmed that he will pick me up from Agadir tomorrow. I now feel that I am completely sorted out! Although I have realised that I may have an issue at Manchester! As I arrive at 22.55pm.... There will not be any trains!... Doh!
Cy, Sarah and I cut loose from the group; Sarah feels the same as me. We are I'm overload! We agreed, we need a coffee and baclava fix!
We walked into the medina square, we found a good spot, we sat and enjoyed the coffee, the baclava, and we chatted non stop for about 90 minutes. I got all nerdy on computers. Oh.... I so needed that rest! We then
went on the hunt for leather bags for Sarah and Cy.
The group are meeting up for our last group meal at 7.30. We met for a drink at a bar before going for dinner. We all made it to the last supper. I think this is the only fill evening meal that I have attended!
It was a really good meal at Riad Omar, it was a good atmosphere, with a great mix of people that became close over the trip. Tonight there were a few goodbyes as some of the group members leave early in the morning before breakfast; then one by one, or couple by couple we will all go our separate ways.
We took taxis back to the hotel.
