Hi everyone- well, great news! Since I was here last (4 years ago) - 2 major improvements at the Kekerok Lodge: wireless internet service in our rooms AND a hair-dryer, too, LOL! Life's priorities, as far as I am concerned! Hopefully, uploading photos won't be a big deal........we'll find out in minutes.
Had a great flight from Dubai to Nairobi - I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Dubai and I know our passengers did, also. Glenn Soares was celebrating his 60th birthday and began the day with all of us singing Happy Birthday in the restaurant in Dubai at breakfast - the celebrations continued through to the Lodge Dining Room with a song/dance by the Masai. Fabulous! A day to remember, I am certain.
We had some delays getting out of Dubai - but, once on our way, all was well. Got to Nairobi and transferred over to smaller planes at the Domestic Terminal - I have a photo below of the small Twin Otter I was in. It was fabulous, actually, because the flight then to the Masai area was like a 'private viewing' as we flew low and the sky was clear. Loved it!!!! Took lots of
photos to share the topography with you. Very, very different from Dubai, that's for sure.
We all got to the Lodge just as the sun was setting. There really is nothing so magical as an African sunset - honestly. We are staying at the Keekerok Lodge in Kenya - glorious. It's got Zen-like qualities all around the properties. I took photos of the room, the view from my room this morning, the bathroom and the shower - 'cause really - think about it - we're in the middle of nowhere in Africa and we have fabulous rooms, bathrooms and internet! Amazing!!!! And yet, the surroundings are majestic. As I look out my window right now, there are zebras and elephants in the distance - hope you can see them in the photo. It's really hard to explain in words what it feels like - sort of like being in the middle of a National Geographic magazine - but LIVE. Wow. I feel blessed to be here. (Can't help but think of you, Rebecca, and the love you have for Africa.)
We had a lovely buffet dinner last night - a birthday celebration for Glenn - and then everyone
pretty much disappeared. The agenda for this morning was amazing (but mighty EARLY!) - people who had booked the hot air balloon ride had a wake up call at 4:45 a.m. - for those of us going on safari, our call was much more human - it was at 5:45 a.m., LOL! A quick cup of tea and we were off - and what a beautiful morning and what a beautiful drive. We saw it ALL! - elephants, lions, Masai ostrich, hyenas, leopard - absolutely fantastic. So, lots of photos to share with you.
We got back to a yummy breakfast (I am now officially addicated to the chocolate croissants that we have been offered in the last few countries - they really know how to make 'em!) - Brenda and I did a bit of browsing in the gift shop, booked massages for tomorrow afternoon - there are bird walks available and I want to partcipate in that too - lots to do - and time to relax, also. It's really great. (so why aren't YOU here too??????? - contact Travel Guild and book your spot for next year - seriously!!!!)
I wanted to get this note
out to you before lunch so you know we do have an internet connection and, unlike last time, you won't be without the blog for 3 days. That was kind of funny because people do become addicted to it by this point in the journey - I know you are all sitting there and waiting for the updates - so, rest assured - I'm here, I'm connected and I'm thinking of you - as we all are. The passengers are thrilled that you are all following along, leaving comments and travelling with us, virtually.
Have a happy day!
(P.S. My Mom is not doing well; she is in hospital - I do believe in the power of prayer and my request is that you pray, along with me, for a peaceful and calm 'journey' for her over the next few days.........thanks!)
Happy Pat
