Edit Blog Post
Hello there!
SO it's been a few weeks since I did my last Blog "surely he's done some crazy cool stuff that I'm going to be well jealous about" is probably what you're thinking....you're correct.
So the last time I left you we had just been to the football and the "dumping ground".
Did the usual teaching malarky during the week and then hit the beach at the weekend. Well Brenu Beach was the total opposite from Shama!perfect beach, the sea was stupidly warm and the food was awesome....stayed for 3 days and only paid lik 20 quid for the experience which is always nice! Also not having to watch people poo is always a bonus...
It was quite a small group of us that ended up going but that was better to be honest, i think 7 of us ended up going and had a really cool weekend. Got smashed on the Friday night and decided that a bit of naked sea action was called for (don't worry mum they had a life guard, very sensible drunks that we are) and then inevitably all the guys decided it was necessary to dress like women. In the
morning it was decided that it was highly unnecessary and we now regret the whole affair due to the photos doing the rounds on facebook (thankyou very much Danielle and Liz). Here's a word of warning to you all, Hangovers in Africa are the roughest feeling in the world!the 30deg heat doesn't help, the fact that you're dehydrated at the best of times adds to the problem and the malaria tablets are just the icing on the cake. Still hasn't (and won't) stop me though! I decided that it wasn't a hangover, it was infact heat stroke (I will continue to tell myself that...) but everyone else just things i'm a big girl when it comes to drinking...hah!
Had mid-term exams at school and they went surprisingly well....bit shocked really!in each of my classes (business management and cost accounting) only 2 people failed which was a minor miracle! The usual suspects in the class (my favourite students Evans, Ebenezer and Charles) all did ridiculously well and the rest were a bit of a revelation, they actually looked at their notes for a change!Alot of the kids have started coming to school after hours aswell now (until about 10pm) which is
fine by me seeing as we're banned from the local pub, gives me something to do at night!Still a bit keen though!
Oh yeah...getting banned from the pub. That was a bit annoying! Now I wish that I had some story about creating a massive ruckus and starting a bar fight or something but it's a pretty lame tale to be honest. We used to go about 3/4 nights a week and have A beer (that's right 1 whole beer!we are MENTAL!) but the village elders decided that we were being a bad influence on the pupils and inciting them to drink alcohol even though we have never see 1 pupil while we were there (we sit behind a 7ft wall which means you can't see us from the road) and also the fact that we were pretty much single handedly keeping the bar in business wasn't taken into consideration...irritating to say the least!
Oh well, went to stay at a couple of the other volunteers (Roy and Danielle) last Friday and (sorry mum) got pretty drunk again....I won't tell you what went down but there are photos and they are incriminating. That's all that needs to be
said on that subject!
Headed down to Cape Coast the next day and must admit I quite like the place. We we're mainly going there to go clubbing (Ghana Stylee) but I was pretty keen on going to see the Castle too (where the UK exported millions of slaves around the world) but mr. Hangover put an end to that idea!i'm doing it this weekend instead.
So what's clubbing in Ghana like you ask?different, definetely different. We ended up going to "the pantry" which is an enclosed open air bar/club absolutely packed with what looked like extras from a hip-hop video, it was so cool but also made me feel unbelievably white! We all got our dance on, you just have to come to terms with the fact that a white person will NEVER be able to dance aswell as a black person and it's all good. Although I did pull out a few of my classic Indie's dance moves which turned a few heads!probably not in a good way but I think they were mighty impressed!
This brings us up to the past weekend...eventful again but probably for all the wrong reasons!
Headed along to Dixcove
and Green Turtle Lodge which is an eco-lodge on the beach which was really picturesque and served the best cocktails I have ever had!got tipsy on thursday night and lay on the beach all night looking at the stars, saw my first ever shooting star (saw 3 actually) which was pretty cool!then on Friday night I was walking to my tent (that's right...camping on the beach) in the pitch black (no electricity as it's an "eco-lodge") and smashed my head off of a massive wooden beam, split my head open and was covered in my own blood. Now I don't know about you but pissing blood all over yourself is not my idea of a good friday night!luckily there was 2 doctors sitting right next to where it happened and they sorted me out!also, it was lucky that I had looked down at the ground a moment before it happened as I would either have a massive scar on my forehead now or only 1 eye...think I got off pretty lightly really!Saturday was spent at a surf competition and abstaining from anything fun less I anger my injuries and then all day Sunday I went bodyboarding, someone has to do
kids from busua
to be honest i just though my camera skills were so good they had to be shown to the world! it eh?
Anyway that's me pretty much up to date with all my shenanigans. Going to Cape Coast this weekend as I said so we're going clubbing again, might try and put some pics up for you.
Send me emails, I enjoy hearing what's going on back home.
Away to watch the mighty Celtic pump ManUre.
xx
