Hi all

There are 4 children at the oprhanage with special needs - they were abondened by their parents when they found out they had special needs.. They are looked after by one women mama elizaqbeth. All the children have a mama who looksa after them - 1 mama will look after between 4 and 8 kids depending on thier ages. these are ghanese women who have dedicated thier lives to the children. Mama elizabeth get the children up, feeds them, washes them and takes care of them. when i have spare time i am helping out where i can - feeding the kids at lunch time, washing htem and playing. 2 of the kids can't walk without assistance/ support - they don't have apparatus or equipment like you would expect in england. they only time thye walk is if a vonunteer supports them. the smiles on their faces are enough to know they appreicate their freedom, other than this they jkust sit about untilo someone stimulates them. The good thing is that the kids who atre older and have been at the orphanage don't just leave - they are encouraged ( and want to) continue helping in different ways either full time, part time or ad hoc, These children (who are prehaps some of the fortunate ones compared to some oprhanages - due to the support and work oprhan aid africa are doing) are respectful and grateful to the mama's who bought them up and want to give something back.

Along all the roads - where we live and in accra ( everywhere) arearge drains - they are full of feaces and urine - i cannot even begin to describe the smell!!
accra ir by the coast - we walked down to the beach - it is beautiful however the rubbiush that is on the beach is unbeleivable - i have taken pics.. you would not want to swim in the sea.
besides all this the counrty itself is beautiful with fantastic scenery - once you lok past the povery and dirt!

ta ta for now

Have you run out of sunscreen?
*giggle* Just thinking of you. I really miss your expertise here. *sigh* But, I'm getting by. LOL I can't wait to see all your pictures when you get back. I'm so very proud of you! It took a lot of courage to make the decision to go. This is an experience of a life time, and I'm sure many envy your committment. Stay strong. It's probably very hard to be surrounded by the poverty without wanting to change the world, but you are doing so much more than most. Be proud of that. Big hug! ~Misty x
