Geo: 25.7524, -114.111Only one more day left on the ship. We had the last formal night, and all our tablemates showed up for dinner. Leonard and Allison, Estelle and Sam, Lori, Suzann, and we made up the table. They have been a nice group to spend dinnertime with. This morning when we had breakfast at the buffet, there was a woman monopolizing the toaster. After she touched all the English muffins that came out, I decided to wait and go back later to fix one for me. I went to two presentations in the Cabaret Lounge that Philip chose to skip. In the morning, Cruise Director Sammi interviewed the singers and dancers. They told how they came to work in the entertainment field and how they chose to work on ships, specifically Princess ships. They work hard, ... read more

How to combine, yet again, nature's wonders in my holiday even including a wedding! Where to do this better than the Sea of Cortez, as Jacques Cousteau famously called it: The World's Aquarium. Jacques Cousteau (1910-1997) was a French naval officer, explorer, conservationist, filmmaker, innovator, scientist, photographer, author and researcher who studied the sea and all forms of life in water. Cousteau described his underwater world research in a series of books and he directed films. The Sea of Cortez is a dazzling pageant of nature. Scientists say this narrow sea between the Mexican mainland and the Baja California peninsula is one of the most biologically diverse bodies of water on the planet, home to more than 900 species of fish, thousands of species of invertebrates, and a wide array of marine mammals like sea lions, dolphins ... read more

We woke up to a clear beautiful sunny morning in San Luis Gonzaga. I think I was supposed to use the outhouse across the road from my palapa, but it was really stinky and awful, so I used the next palapa's outhouse! Not much better, but......when ya gotta go, ya gotta GO!! So.....a little Baja geography........there is really only one major highway down the Baja..... Highway #1. However, on the top of the Baja there are 3 major highways that take you to different places depending on where you enter the country. We entered Mexico through Mexicali, so we were on Highway #5 to San Felipe. Highway 5 ends just after San Luis Gonzaga (where we woke up this day) and although the highway is "built" further south to intersect with Highway 1 at Chapala, there ... read more

Hi everyone, Happy New Year. Although by the time I have sent this, it will probably be the end of January, all your New Year’s resolutions will have already been thrown out the window or forgotten, and the countdown to Easter will be well on its way. Anyway I hope you all had an excellent festive season. Our run up to Christmas was pretty chilled; in fact so chilled we could have so easily let it pass us by. Considering most days we have trouble knowing what the date is and the hot sunny days are a little distracting it was hard to get a festive mindset on, particularly with no TV adverts and Sound of Music repeats to remind us. So, Graeme was in his element with absolutely no Christmas shopping required. After all, what ... read more

January 26 Cabo San Lucas We're ready to cook and dance. Our group of twelve boarded a bus for a short drive to a restaurant overlooking the sea. The plan is to learn how to make various salsas and then dance the salsa. Each table had the fixings, a lime squeezer, a cutting board and mortar and pestle. At the door we are offered juice, water and Margaritas. Well, the sun is over the yardarm somewhere so Maggie's it is. We were seated at a table where each couple had everything needed to make salsa. But first we made really great margaritas. The second batch were strawberry so I passed my glass to a tablemate who graded it A. ML was in charge of chopping and I did the grinding. Needless to say her chopping was ... read more

. When I first asked my husband where he wanted to go one our honey moon his response was "anywhere but a cruise" the truth is neither of us had been on a cruise and we were both hesitant to be on a giant boat in the middle of the ocean. All we could think was "Titanic" As the wedding planning continued we knew we wanted something fun and a wedding that people would remember. We are not your average couple. We don't like rules and we hate "tradition" for no reason. We discussed the cruise ship idea over and over and had family members telling us how wrong we were about cruising. We sank into the idea of a cruise ship wedding combined with a week long vacation. We decided to get married on a carnival cruise ... read more

Blog – USA & Cruise – Central America It was supposed to be a relaxing journey, in the campervan, up to Gatwick with a pleasant Friday evening in an airport hotel – that was before the battery light came on when we reached Swindon and we decided to get off the M4 and call out the breakdown people. We didn’t fancy the Campervan not starting the following day when we needed to drive it to long term parking and catch the midday flight! Plenty of time to sort as it was only 10.30am. Breakdown people said they would be out in 1 hour (more like 1½ hours!) Confirmed we had a problem and followed him back to his depot, where it transpired that it was an alternator problem and there were none to be had in ... read more

I chose to stay at the Solmar, which I thought was a fairly good value. Things were well appointed without being a hugely upscale experience financially. I would stay there again. I think their water is actually fairly well treated, but I still used bottle water the entire time I was there just in case and that worked out just fine. As part of the package I had, I was given free "American Breakfast" every day at one of their snack bars. Turned out to be a really nice breakfast every day with ham, scrambled eggs, some rice, some tortillas, and a very fresh fruit salad. They took some time with food presentation as well, and once I noticed that, figured out the food would be pretty good and was right about that. Solmar and Grand ... read more
