One for the relatives
After all the requests for updates here we are back by popular demand...

So where were we...

We left Rio and bid a sad farewell to the wonderful Tina and with her local knowledge followed her advice to get a 2hr bus down to Angres dos Reis to catch a boat/ferry over to Ilha Grande (trans: Big Island) Tina said to get the 15:00 ferry as this was the last one on a Friday. Unfortunately when travelling it seems rather easy to muddle ones days and as such we arrived on the Saturday avo having missed the ferry. Managed to catch a lift over with some fisherman which was somewhat more pleasant than our return trip when - after a last minute decision to leave the Island and having already packed we had to catch an aromatic lift with the rubbish boat.

Anyway the Island itself is very beautiful and has reportedly the ¨best beach in Brazil¨ namely Lopez Mendez. We met Hugh (Swansea), Delhi (Dublin) and Kat (Texas) on our first full day and set off on a trek through the jungle to find said beach. 2 and 1/2 hours later we reached the beach.

We managed to find the one spot on the beach where the 2 currents met and Hugh and i had lifeguards whistling and screaming at us - all very dramatic...we both got back to shore ok - although Hugh had a bit of a blub and fell out with his girlfriend...

When we left Lopes Mendes it proceeded to rain and we were both soaked and freezing when we arrrived back and promptly decided to leave the next day for Paraty (pronounced Parachi) - had we not lent our guide book to a nice Danish couple for the night we would have read the boat left at 10am and avoided the rubbish boat...
