Arrival was very late on the 3rd. Just before midnight. I was depressed because my luggage somehow got lost in Melbourne. It was supposed to be a simple flight, 55 mins.
NOT. Of course if anything can go wrong when you check in a luggage it happens to us! We never check in luggage because of the nightmares. Sure enough, flight delayed, Everyone's luggage gets put off the cancelled plane but mine, which sleeps in Melbourne while I take off to Hobart Tasmania and arrive after midnight.
How bad can it be? I start taking inventory about what I lost. Medication, second pair of glasses, 2 x GPS's, cables, clothes, sigh.... Not to mention 16 hours in transit.
Next morning. I get up with no news about the luggage, so I head off to the local Depanneur, / gas station to pick up sandwiches, cables, for recharging batteries etc...
After putting all our stuff in storage in MTL. and just surviving with a carry on, then losing the carry on I was down to basics, my camera. lol. We decided that when we got up the next day it was going to be a wait
and see, so we walked around Hobart in between the rain, and slowly figured out the what ifs, should my luggage not appear etc...... At around 11AM, we meandered back to our home, and we saw a van pull up and said to each other, Could it be my luggage? YUP. Phew!. Never again do I put anything other than my dirty and clean cloths in my carry ons, Everything else goes in my camera bag. Lessons learned, eh.
New plan of action next day. Off to another Garden, this time a walking tour, but the weather is not cooperating, you see, I did not know when we planned this trip that the further down south you go, the colder it gets, go north and it gets warmer. Tasmania yesterday was
"0" celsius and rainy , then sunny, then, rainy, then rainy, well. you get the drift.
The botanical Garden was located over the mountain and far away, so we decided to walk the 3 kms. Once we arrived we were greeted freely by some retirees, who outlined our path into the park for the day. It was a 14 acre park in which we experienced different plantation
gardens, ranging from, Japanese gardens to Tasmanian floral and fauna. The pics show our journey.
We left the Gardens and pursued our next target, which was the Harbor. Along the way, we met the parrots, their antics as shown, left no impressions except the obvious. see the examples. Lol.
When we arrived at the Harbor finally, it was our full intention to eat in the best sea food restaurant in Hobart: "The Drunkin' Admiral". Food was fast and furious. Arrived in 5 mins. thank goodness, and was exquisitely cooked. The sumptuous platter of various cold fishes, shrimp, oysters, etc. was delectable. Yum. Yum. A glass of wine to wash it down and Bob's your uncle!!
We woke up and promptly took off to the airport to rent a car. Right hand driving, chapter two. Now I was ready. I had my new "sim" card on the phone for data, I had my GPS, and I had the wife, keep on saying" Stay left. Stay left", and as well, as yelling out the speed limit. Our destination today was Bruny Island, where we immediately stopped and ate Oysters upon arrival. Next up as well, was Cappuccino, and then, staying
to script, Clam chowder and a Wallaby burger. Baby Kanga best describes it. Some will ask about the taste , and I can best describe it as gamey. Onward around Bruny Island which offered up scenery that is timeless, hence the lighthouse, the seashores and the vistas.
Betweenst the rain we experienced, and the travels we endured, we saw burnt forests, flora, and untouched wilderness which is a testament to the unbridled beauty that Australia has preserved for generations. We capped off the day with a delectable lunch in a winery, and had clam chowder, Wallaby burger, and a beach walk at the southern most part of the Bruny Island, before we headed back towards Hobart.
