Cheers!
O'shea's of Talbot Street, Dublin Hello my fellow travelers!
This is the first of four posts I'll make about a trip I did to Ireland together with my friend Ulf (called Uffe) in June 2006.
As my parents and my uncle had decided not to make any more family trips I knew I had to take matters into my own hands. That made this the first ever trip that I planned on my own, a new experience in and off itself. We booked our flights out of Gothenburg, the nearest city to my friend Uffe's home in Trollhättan så I went to him the day before so that we could go to the airport together. However, we noticed that night that Uffe had, in his usual fashion, forgotten to check on his passport which had expired.
So, our first order of the day before boarding the flight was to go to the police to get a temporary passport for Uffe, a lovely pink little thing which cost more than the plane tickets did. So, that was our first little snafu, the second one was that once we had boarded the flight there had been some kind of computer error so the flight personnel
thought that someone who were going to London had boarded our flight to Dublin and it took an hour or two before that had been cleared out and we finally got on our way to Dublin.
From the airport we made our way over to our accommodation for the week, Isaac's Hostel. We checked our bags in and then we did the only right thing to do in Dublin, heading to the nearest pub and getting ourselves a pint of Guinness. After a few hours and pints of various beverages we went back to the hostel where we met two guys from Finland and a guy from Spain and subsequently we all headed out together for more liquid strengtheners.
And thus our first, alcohol-induced day in Dublin came to an end.
The next post will be about the next day which was mainly spent checking out the historical parts of Dublin as well as the Guinness Storehouse. Until then I wish you all peace and happy travels!

I also travelled using a pink passport once
Funny coincidence that I also travelled using a pink passport in 2006. At least I think it was in 2006. I think my pink passport might be featured on the second or third blog entry I wrote on TravelBlog. What happened to me was that my passport got stuck in the mail. I had sent it to London to get a visa. Because this was in the days before Christmas, mail service was slow and the passport didn't return to Sweden in time for me to have it before my flight. I still made it to Yemen that trip. I also made it back alive. /Ake
