We were in Grand Cayman in 2014, so are happy this time to do our own thing, rather than doing something organised by the ship. Grand Cayman has strong connections with Britain / UK.
There are six big cruise ships in dock today and ours is the last to arrive. It is 11.00am by the time we get off the boat.
We head off to the public bus station and are soon on our way to a little village we have heard about called Hell. Your eyes are not misleading you.
This village had grown up around a small area of strange looking volcanic rock looking very much like a lunar landscape.
They have a quaint village post office that can post mail with a Hell post stamp, and can also do passport stamps, which we got of course.
The village postmaster has put a lot of time into making this a very different tourist attraction. Every day he dresses as the devil and is happy to be included in photographs. All the conversation with the shop staff always end up using the word ‘hell’ in some way like it’s been a hell of a day
today and other examples!
Whilst walking around, we spotted a large wild iguana and he had us mesmerised for a short while.
Once finished with all the different bits in Hell, we used the local bus to get us back to Georgetown where the boat is docked in port.
Georgetown, Cayman Islands is a tender port meaning the ships can’t dock and you are tendered to shore by boats. You have to book your tender ashore and there can sometimes be a short delay whilst waiting to return to the ship.
As there are so many boats in today, there are people everywhere in town, so we headed back to the port for the tender back to the boat and a light lunch in the buffet.
We spent the late afternoon in Posh making the most of the afternoon sun and watching the other boats sail away one by one. There are normally copious amounts of free champagne available on most sail always for Posh members. This holiday has seen Theresa drinking lots of it as she has also won six bottles of it on the casino slots.
Before dinner, we went to guest
services as we had seen a sign on one of their boards that said all back to back cruisers for the next leg had to make sure they were checked in for the next cruise. Of course, the message is missing from the board now and the girl on the desk did not appear to understand why we were there, so we gave up after a while and went to dinner. Unfortunately, with an operation to take care of 4500 passengers, there are going to be a fair share of issues like this. During these two cruises, we have seen a few issues like this.
As we walked past the tour excursion desk, we saw details of their behind the scenes tour, so signed up to do that on Thursday which will be our last sea day of this seven day cruise.
This evening is Asian night in the buffet and it was all very tasty.
We ended another great day with a quick visit to the casino.
